I bought a horse about 3 weeks ago. I posted on here about her being a little underweight and I got some good advice.

But she has absolutely blossomed and yesterday I saw her belly "kick" her teats have began to drop. I really don't know what to do with her as she was bought to live out over summer. I have never had a foal before and not sure of the general protocols that go on. She isnt bagging up and isnt waxing up yet. I could ideally do with selling her as she isnt in a suitable field/home to have a foal, but secretly I'd love a foalie!!

So what to do now?! Just let her carry on in the field?

Even with other horses?

I have never had a foal but I know lots of people seem to bring them in and monitor them through the nights and so on. Will I be able to leave her to it?

Is there any way you can have her in an individual paddock? I would prefer to leave the mare out but if she is out with other horses it could be a problem when she did foal.

That's what happened to me. Brought Storm from Ireland, thought she was getting very oddly shaped, swollen teats, vet out and 4 weeks later Turbo arrived

I was in free fall when I heard she was pregnant as I'd never had a foal before - Storm was only 2 herself.

But I phoned / emailed the Mare and Foal Sanctuary and they were AMAZING :D I mean really fantastic :D

They gave me loads of great advice - most that no need to panic :D I'd get in touch with them for sure cause you will be inundated with loads of differing advice from loads of people which can get brain mashing.

Have you actually had a vet confirm it? I had a mare on loan last year who had a big maternity belly from her previous foal and still had milk when she was in season...I got told by loads of people she was pregnant but she definately wasn't!
