My broken horse can trot!

April has been on box rest for six weeks. She fell in the field and ruptured her peroneus tertius the 14th day we had her and she was totally and utterly unable to move the leg to trot. 60% of horses recover from this injury, 28% are pts.

I took her out of her box this morning and she was SO good. I just asked her for six strides in each direction and she can do it. It was so awful before, she was hopping, now there is a proper trot.

I'm so excited! I do know there is a long haul ahead and she still might not be what she used to be but there is so much more hope now!

To anyone else waiting to see if a horse on box rest comes sound I wish you the good luck that April and I have had.

She is one of the constant box walkers and weavers so we have had to work really hard to settle her - I think it may have all been worth it.!

Fantastic news! My boy has still got another 6 weeks of box rest and won't be back in work for 3 months from his fractured splint bone. Can't wait to be able to play with him again!

Oh that is fantastic news! what a relief! What is the plan for her now, how much more box rest/ time off is there?

How is Flynn going?

Great news, but I hope she won't make Flynn redundant, he looks so happy at your house!
It's amazing what rest can do, some of the lame retired horses we have here written off by insurance company vets are now I would say 98% sound...
Fingers' crossed for you she continues to improve.

Great news, glad your horse looks to be on the mend.

My mare is on the sixth week of an 8 week stretch of box rest at the moment and then back to the vets and fingerscrossed she is will be pronounced sound and the injury was just a sprain. Otherwise, we are looking at another 2 months box rest and lots of time off or retirement as it is a possible annular ligament injury (she's had scans but they were inconclusive)

She is looking stonking sound though on her 10 mins in hand walk, so am hoping the prognosis is good
