Have just been looking at long range forecasts, as us horse owners do, and people, the HW rugs are going to have to come out (says the girl whose horse is still naked in the hay and with a no fill on at night).....Tues, Weds, Thurs and Friday in my area are going to be *feels like* minus figures, up to -8.....am hoping this is wrong, but The Weather Outlook and Metcheck say the same thing....

Brrrrrrrrr :(

We've been told snow in this area,,,,,we are on the south coast...what is that all about!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mind you might not happen.

Where are you reading this?

My forecast shows only snow in the scottish mountains!, gales in the NW and NE (of the UK) and "brighter and showery conditions across much of the UK which will last well into next week"

Just checked for where we are (S. Wales) on Metcheck, forecast looks fine for next two weeks!

Getting chillier at night but not massively so, 'feels like' -0 on Weds eve, but generally staying at +4 to +10 degrees otherwise. Not wet, sunshine & clouds, not hugely windy.

Not bad for October, praying they've got it right! :)

ETA - Weezy, just seen your link

16:00 18:59 6 °c -1 °c 1 0.3 mm 55 % 9 mph 11 mph

That makes no sense to me!
How can a north wind, with over 4/8 cloud cover, at 9mph, in 6`C feel like -1`C ?????

It must be written for you soft southerners! :-)

weezy dont forget metcheck put in fictional data if its more than a few days away and they always forecast snow/sleet overnight in the winter. I use BBC and metcheck and go somewhere in the middle cos BBC are always too warm and windy and metcheck too cold and calm! I do think metcheck on the whole are better at predicting than BBC though!

No probs for my little native gang!!! As long as it's not wet and windy the rugs stay off! Although Moses may appreciate his when his lovely native winter wollies get lopped off!!:)

Use the Meteorology Office

The clue is in the name.......

Plus they are the only ones to have proper Met obs stations around the UK to beable to create forecasts from

I think someone's cocked up badly. if you look at the weather for me: click here and look at Thursday 21 morning it's apparently going to be 4 and feel like -1, however if you press "next seven days" the midnight to 6am figures are apparently a measured temperature of 3 feeling like 9.

And on Saturday 23 early morning it's going to measure 6 and feel like 10 . . .

I tell you what - I was up in Keele (staffs) last night at midnight and it was bloomin freezing. Seriously, seriously cold - felt like minus figures.

Well I will just be happy in the knowledge that met check doesnt say it will be below 6 degrees at night in my area and neither does BBC! Having said that I feel sorry for all of you! Mines still in a no fill during the day and a fleece at night - hes a warmblood who hasnt even thought about growing a winter coat yet!

Yep saw that Epping area is going down to 4 on Saturday night so will get the 200 out for Stinky as he is living out full clipped and I may starting bringing in next week rather than the last week of October as planned if it is going cold and windy - our field has little natural shelter. Farra will be ok as she is looking like a mammoth at the moment - very large and very hairy beastie and eats like one too.

Best weather sites are xcweather and accuweather. xc weather uses all the feeds from the weather stations but its model for forecasting always seems more accurate to me than metcheck. Accuweather good for longer range forecasts.

XC weather was originally designed for cross country flying in aircraft so is esp good on windspeeds, useful for those of us in the scary gales areas or those with wind spooky horses!

I've checked my pine cone and he is tightly curled up........in a sleeping bag sipping hot chocolate so that's a cold weather forecast then!

BBC is dire! In the last year it has correctly 'guessed' the weather once!

I stand at the window looking at the sun thinking 'That's wrong the Beeb said rain.....'

I went cubbing this morning so was down the yard at 0530. Metcheck had forecast 6 degrees overnight in my area and the car was frozen solid saying minus 2.

i tend to take weather forecasts with a pinch of salt, as my YO says ' they can't forecast yesterdays ******** weather :)

Wow its gonna be cold in leics as well :s hopefully will get dancer clipped and rugged up ready for next week. Row us still naked so will have to get medium ready for him. I was hoping they could stay out at night till Nov but at this rate it'll have to b next week
