My shetland was looking really grubby - thick coat, skewbald but looked very yellow... you get my drift! So I gave her a bath (she's rugged up / stabled in worst of weather as she's old so ok to bath in her case). After, I figured I'd shorten her mane as the poor girl has been sweating a bit recently due to the warmish weather we've had this week and Im sure her thick crazy mane didnt help. I shortened it, and then shortened it a little more. Then I HOGGED her!!!!!!!! I thought it was a good idea at the time! I had thought about doing it last year because I figured it would be easier to keep her clean as her mane really does grow very thick so gets really grossly dirty.

She looks dreadful. It actually took my breath away when I stood back after Id clipped. Do you think I should go round picking up the hair and glueing it back on?!

Thankfully the farrier has just been so Im really hoping nobody will see her for a while until it grows back in (she doesn't go anywhere luckily). Poor girl

i cut my little mare's mane shorter and neater with scissors the other day. what the hell, it'll grow back. mine now looks more like a fjord pony than a wbxtb, but it's better than pulling it (she's never going to a show anyway, so what's the point in putting her through that.) relax, as least it'll be cleaner through the winter. good luck getting it to lie back down though...

You people are mean! I don't think you quite understand *just* HOW horrific she looks!! She looks like she's been in an argument with some hedge trimmers....

And no. You will not be getting a picture. Is the THOUGHT of it not enough?! (*bursts into tears yet while screaming "what have I done" for the millionth time...*).

I don't think we can picture it.................go on show us a piccy. I'm sure then you will get much more supportive posts, along the lines on 'never mind, it doesn't look that bad....etc'.

Ha, you guys will all wet your pants with laughter! I know you will, I would if she weren't mine! How long do you think it'll take to grow back?!

I really stupidly allowed someone to pull and trim my horses tails, based on the fact that he said he'd done loads, and was really good at it.
They ended up looking like someone had hacked at them with a kitchen knife. I actually cried when I saw them! I was devastated....

I still want to see pics though - if only to make me feel better about my experience. Call it therapy....

I've seen a few shetties with hogged manes but with long forelocks. They all looked lovely and smart.

Please show us a piccy.

I can see it working as a look.

Talking of cocking up manes, I have cocked my horses mane up in a spectacular fashion. It is soooo hideous we can not go anywhere until it has grown a fair old bit!! I have never made such a cock up with it.

No, I won't show you a photo!

i have to hog my cob every fortnight as it grows so fast!! so piccies pleaaaasssssssssssseeeeee!!!

I actually CAN'T pluck up the courage to take a camera near her! I feel so bad for her!

She is now also filthy again - took her ages to dry after her bath yesterday so I let her out into the yard to dry in the sun. She then rolled in a big patch of mud so one side of her is lovely and white, the other is brown again
