The thread with puppy and grown up photos on it got me to thinking that it has been a year since I rescued my old boy. We went for booster and kennel cough vaccinations this morning and the vet couldn't get over the difference in him. I have dug out some photos and I had forgotten just how sorry and sad he looked. I thought I'd share with you.

He is brighter and more alert, he is keen to eat and go for walks and he has even started to play with toys which is something he never used to do.
He is a fantastic friend.

Wow what a difference!!

I missed his story. What happened to him?

I don't know if I posted about him when I first got him because the vet wasn't sure he'd make it. They certainly didn't think his fur would grow back because the skin looked so thickened.

He was removed from a house by the RSPCA, the owner had got him from a friend down the pub (you know, that old story). He has allergies and the man hadn't had him seen by a vet at all. He is allergic to flea bites, certain foods and some pollen (this is only obvious in the summer)
He was microchipped as a pup by a rescue centre so we know pretty much his whole life story! He will be 8 in October.
The man was banned from keeping animals and fined by the courts in September last year.

He has been fairly easy to get back to health really. To start with he was having weekly Malaseb baths. I have been massaging his skin in an attempt to stimulate the hair growth. He has regular advocate treatments to stop the flea bite problem, we feed him Wafcol Salmon and Potato food because he seems to do well and not react to it and in the summer he has a couple of Piriton a day for the allergies. I rarely see him scratch now.
I'll add a photo of him in the house he was removed from so you can get the gist of the kind of conditions he was living in:

You can still see her scars:(

She is another happy soul!
Gizmo still has what we call his "baldy bum cheek". That and really long claws that we are still trimming weekly in an at tempt to make them stay shorter are the only reminders really.
