Hi,
My ID mare has been barefoot for about 15 ish months now. She’s was sound within about 6 weeks of taking her shoes off. She’s 12 now so had been shod for about 8 ish years before I got her.
She had a lot of behaviour issues so was left to settle in and get used to me before bringing her back into work.
She was worked last summer and then turned away for the winter
In her previous home she was left to just collect dust pretty much so I bought her as a green horse that knew the basics but was a semi project.
since I’ve had her she’s had the physio, dentist, vet, farrier etc.
Physio said she had the joints of a 4 year old and the only issue is that she was slightly tight on her rear end.
I’ve been massively working with her using a mixture of stretches and exercises given by the physio, massage pad, hacking out (before COVID19) and light lungeing to release tension.
It was working really well up until the last 2 weeks.
I’ve noticed she been gradually getting lamer but only on the right rein.
to start with it looked like the front right leg but then it looked like the right back and now the front again.
I’m noticed yesterday that her back legs started clicking but only in walk.
im really at a loss as to what to do. She does not seem to be in pain, let’s me touch her legs, move her shoulders etc with no heat or swelling anywhere, has no changes in her personality and is happily playing and cantering around playing with my other horses.
sorry for the long post but any suggestions as to what it might be or advice would be appreciated.
please no nasty comments. She always gets anything she needs and is my baby.
thank you
