We're well and truly stuffed at the moment. A horse with strangles went to a local show and infected about half a dozen others - all in yards round about us, so we are pretty much confined to the yard.

Pain in the butt - but we have some old ladies and gents, plus a foal on the yard, so really don't want to take any risks.

That is rotten luck. We had an outbreak exactly this time last year- not fun.

The time passed fairly quicky though and with simple careful management no other horses caught it. Fingers crossed for your lot.

The old horses are less of a concern, the babies are where you have to be especially careful!!

There seems to be a lot of strangles about just now, some sort od website saying where has it would be useful.

How long do we need to be careful for?
We can't ride out ANYWHERE without passing infected stables - it's a miracle we haven't got it already,

TBH, I'd speak to your vet! Strangles is not funny, esp. in youngsters.
