On my trip to the yard today all 3.5miles of it i saw.....

26 horses, not all together but in 1's 2's and 3's all doing a long distance ride, there were 2 routes but both routes had to go on a fairly busy main rd. Quite a few of the roads have cars parked on one side so you have to stop to allow oncomming traffic etc, they all had on hi viz etc but what i did notice much to my dismay was that out of all the riders i passed only 3

said thank you or acknowledged me slowing down or stopping to let them pass etc. Now im not saying im perfect but i do try and smile or nod if i cant take my hands of the reins to thank them i do try to acknowledge them in some way.
Do you make the effort to thank drivers when you can?

Yes i certainly do make the effort to say thank you to drivers who slow down etc. Its only good manners and hopefully they will be more likely to slow down for other riders. I also thank walkers and cyclists who are courteous.

I always thank people who I feel have made an effort towards the safety of me and my horse. But People that race past generally get me screaming at them

I think I actually thank motorists 3 times on average

One of the girls on my yard was hacking down the road as I left to go home today. A stream of five cars passed her (i was 4th), and I was really proud of her for thanking each and every car individually as it went past her. So thank you Alice, for doing your bit to ensure all those drivers slow down next time they pass a horse as well.

I always thank drivers and anyone else who slows down, stops, holds their dogs etc. In fact I spend most of a hack waving, nodding, shouting thank you through open windows etc!

However, I've driven past people from my yard who don't! And you'd think they'd recognise the car and say hi if nothing else but they're so busy chatting, texting (yes - whilst hacking on a road!

) or gazing ahead they don't even notice.

It makes me VERY cross!!
