I am continually baffled by my mare!!

I have I have owned her since October and she has been an Angel until mid March when she suddenly started to refuse to move under saddle or on the lunge....Leg on and she puts her ears back, swished her tail, cow kicks and if I push her, she will eventually buck..

On the lunge, she is very relucantant to go forward and puts her ears back and snakes her neck in at me..

So, I put her straight on Regumate but it made no difference. She also suddenly lost loads of weight and had runny poo, so I had her scoped and she had grade 3/4 ulcers..She has been on gastrogard for 2 weeks, she is slightly better on the lunge, but now too much better under saddle.

I have had her back, teeth and saddles checked and now had her bloods taken and a poo sample sent for anaylsis.....I dont have the results yet...

I have just bought her in for the evening and she is now fully in season!!! peeing every 2 secs, winking and squirting....tho she is on regumate!!!! I am baffled!

She is on the Porcine Regumate and has 2 squirts a day added to her feed, she always finished her feed. She is 16.1 WB, 8YO...

Any answers/info gratefully received!

Sounds like she's in transitional oestrus - often accompanied by persistent follicles. BUT -did your vet advise you on dosage of regumate. Two 'squirts' sounds a bit random. Equine Regumate is 2.2% altrenogest; Porcine is only 0.4%. A mare the size of yours would need about 12 ml of EQUINE regumate - using the Porcine Regumate would - if my math hasn't failed me - require 4 times the dose (DON'T take that as gospel - check with your vet!!)

If the tests you have had taken don't show anything obvious and the problems persist, I would suggest you get your vet to scan her ovaries - this is always a sensible FIRST step before putting a mare on Regumate which is a thoroughly overused and misunderstood drug!!
