guys, how do you get your horse on the bit and how do you get them to loosen their necks.. eg. when you turn a corner, they are flexable and bend easily.. my mare is like a plank! LOL

To help her get flexion in her neck the best thing to do is do some carrots stretches this helps my boy so much :) when riding you could do some flexions from left to right just to help get tight muscles lose :) If you see no improvement it may be worth getting a chiropractor out to your mare! x

Hope this is some help x

Mine's a bit of a plank too, but he's only 6 and is being treated (by ACPAT physio: skilled manipulations - and me: carrot stretches) for an old neck injury (from before I had him). I hope we'll get some flexion sometime... I know he's not ready for schooling in circles/on the bit yet.
So long as he stays as sweet and rideable as he is (and doesn't use that plank-neck to take advantage of me!), I'm not too worried about looking posh and dressage-y...
Jane Savoie has some good 'on the bit' ideas to try (videos online), google her.
The carrot stretches are fun, and strengthen your relationship and trust with your horse.
Good luck!

(Physio is about £55 a visit).
