So I've accepted that at the age of 12, and after struggling with tension and bad manners caused by the tension for 6 years, Star should have a calmer on the day of a competition.

She did get one a few years ago, but I hoped (foolishly) that she would mature out of the tension.

A lot of new things have come on the market since. Can anybody recommend an 'on the day' calmer? Had anybody used Naf Instant Magic? What is OxyShot like?

Help please. I want to enjoy this year's show season.

All I want is 2 afternoons a month of reasonable behaviour.

Btw - she's fine at dressage, because there is nobody else in the ring.........sigh. Maybe she's a bit of a Diva.

I have used NAF instant magic on my last couple of outings. THe first tube made no difference until it came time for the journey home. Yesterday I gave the tube 4 hours before we were due to leave, and while it didn't quite have the effect I was wanting on the outward journey, she was less stressy while I was getting her dressed, and was very calm and chilled about the warm up.... a total and utter first.

I just need to get the administration time right so that it does help the outward journey, but I was always a total cynic, until desperation forced my hand and now, I do think there is something in it though.

I would give it a go, after all you have nothing to loose and a lot to gain.

I used NAF Magic on my pony last year. One week in an intro we got 57 in the dressage without calmer and the next week in same intro dressage test we got 42... With the calmer she let me ride her as she would go at home rather than being really tense.

My little cob was always given an oxyshot before travelling to a show as she found the travelling quite stressful, it worked very well for her. I think 'instant' calmers are a matter of trial and error as what works brilliantly for one horse may have no effect on another. Good Luck!

Trial and error really- nothing has really worked on our stresshead, his improvement appears to be coinciding with his increased experience... But its worth asking in your local tackshop as they have a wealth of knowledge in there!

I tried NAF instant calmer on my mare for dressage recently. AT 14, she has had alot of experience going to parties, although we have only done a handful of dressage ones. She gets very tense and strong and no amount of working in really changes it as she stresses going into the arena to do the test. TBH i think she is the same for jumping but seems to use her adrenaline to our advantage jumping!
Anyway it did really help her and she was almost working like she does at home which is a first. She just generally felt much happier and chilled.

I gave Gin a dose of so calm paste (or something like that), think its the equine america one, before the area festivals a few years ago and it was great, although it did knock her out a bit too much!

Thankyou all.
Hannah87 - I think star has been talking to your girly. Tense and strong, no softness...yet at home, it can be another story.

Will try the Naf Magic becuse it's in the local tack shop. If no result - I'll go down to Throstlenest because the sell a lot of Equine America stuff.
Thankyou again.
