..let it grow before you put your horses in it?

My paddock was overgrazed by the previous tennant....I have been resting it for about 8w now and its very green, thick with large 'tufty' patches. Say a couple of inches long. I can divide my paddock into 2 and still leave my winter grazing to recover for however long it takes.....

Would yours be back in it by now?

(Since moving to my own place I have become obsessed about other peoples grazing lol!....Driving around I'm taking note of how long the grass is and whether they ever rotate ....I've also developed poo-picking OCD, I practically can't leave the yard if theres poo out in the paddock.....slap me now please:o)

id divide it and out turn them out in it :) if you need some therapy for your ODD my friends got a field or two you could work it out on :D x

It depends...

How big is the field? How many horses and what size are they? good / poor doers? and how long will it need to last them?

If it was overgrazed before it may benefit from a little more rest and or some fertilizer / lime too...

Mine are back on some of my summer grazing. They are good doers so I can't let it get too long. The winter grazing is well on its way to recovering & next month i'll top it.

Personally I'd never fertilise as I don't want any risk of laminitis. If it was that bad I'd reseed.

I also have poo picking OCD!

I wait until its gets at least ankle high, a bit more for them to chew on and lasts a little longer.

Two of mine are good do-er natives, the other needs feeding twice a day all year round:rolleyes:

I havent fertilised because of the (potential) fatties....and whats there is nice quality. I did re-seed and thats coming through nicely now too. Think I will leave it a few more weeks to become more established.

Thanks peeps.
