My Friend has just insured her dogs with More Than pet insurance and she noted that they will not provide cover for Nothern Inuit Dogs (as well as others - see link http://www.morethan.com/Pages/Products/Pet/Faqs.aspx#cover) she asked if i had any trouble insuring Chimo - who is a British Inuit (and not actaually mentioned on the list), but she is with pet plan, as she had 6 weeks free from the breeder. i have just checked her policy and she is down as an Inuit.

Any ideas why they wont insure them? As far as i was aware, they were just a husky/malamute/GSD cross.

We have already claimed on the pet insurance (she ate rat poison on Christmas day!) and there was not problem with the claim at all so am not looking to change insurers at all but was just puzzled by this!

Hi there

This seems to be a come thing on Northern inuits, the trick is to just name it a Inuit, or even a crossbred, which is what it is, my firends have all had the same issue, the reason they dont do that for Northern Inuits is because they can have so many problems. check out another link on hear about the chair of the northern inuits and you will find what issues they have and this could be the reason they dont insure nothern inuit..

Cya I wouldn't call them a crossbred any longer. They are a breed in their own right.

That's a bit like calling a Selle Francais a part bred because it is made up of Arab, Thoroughbred and French Trotter blood - it is still a breed in its own right though.

A labradoodle is a crossbred.

hi there

i totally agree they should be recognised as there own breed, but for some reason insurance companies dont like them.... i remember when my friends tried to insure them, the insurance companies jsut would not have it and that was about a year ago,

who knows they may of changed there mind now lol

Many of the budget insurance companies won't touch Northern Inuits. Pet Plan will cover them and have them listed as Northern Inuits - they are good at paying out too.

Watch when buying insurance and read the small print as many won't pay out repeatedly or if an illness if for life - really you get what you pay for.
