I am probably about to ask a couple of really stupid questions so apologise in advance.
Basically my mare reacted very badly during her last season her behaviour became very erratic and a bit crazy and she was squirting and kicking the walls if a gelding glanced in her direction she was scanned and there was nothing abnormal going on.
Now on sunday she went absolutely crazy in the school on the lunge everytime I tried to make her go on the side near a big hedge which she is never very keen on. At the time I put it down to the wind and the fact that she didn't have much turnout, however it did concern me as earlier in the week she had been perfectly behaved in the school so it seemed a very extreme reaction to the wind.
Over the last week or so she has become extremely grumpy with me when I go in her stable and when I change her rugs .
On the way home tonight I wondered if maybe she was coming into season and then I saw the post on here and it seems even more likely.
So my questions are:
Do mares always squirt and squeal at geldings when they are in season? (mine has in the past but isn't now and she is the first mare I've had)
Do other people's mares become more spooky when in season?
My vet suggested if her seasons caused behaviour issues again it might be worth having an implant put in so if its likely I'll get them out to see her.
Sorry my posts always end up long chocolate hobnobs on offer to anyone that made it through this!
