Firstly, thanks to everyone who has contributed to the thread I started on the future of 4x4s and horseboxes. There were some good points raised, and I think it's a worthwile debate to be having while there is so much being discussed on reducing depedency on oil and climate change in general elseware.

Things will change, and I hope equestrianism does not have to suffer to great a detriment as a consequence.

I was fortunate enough to attend the lecture at the Institute of Mechanical Engineers that this paper is taken from (I used to be an engineer in the road transport industry). It was truly fascinating and made me feel good about things afterwards
