I bought a lovely horse whilst my other was injured so that I could do a bit of everything. He is very talented and has come on beautifully since I got him. Now my other horse is needing working I am finding that I don't have the time to dedicate to my other horse and feel he is getting bored and wasted.

I was thinking about getting a sharer but the problem is where to advertise to get serious riders. He needs someone experienced, he learns very quickly, good habits and bad, so he must have a good rider as I haven't got time to re-school on the days that I have him. Also what should I expect in return?

In all honesty I would rather have a good knowledgeable rider and have them do jobs, than have someone that pays me x per week and does nothing. But would people do the work and also contribute? The sharer would get to compete and pretty much do what they wanted as long as the horse was enjoying it. I would also still like to keep my hand in and ride and do the odd show, but my main concern at the moment is for my horse that I am bringing back into work after injury.

What are my options?

Oh and to say locally this horse has a bit of a fan club as they know who he is (he is featured in many magazines) so I am worried about the time wasting people that like the look of him who in fact cannot ride/do him justice.

Thanks.

I would start with riding club adverts first - at least they might be people who compete if that is what you are looking for. Perhaps senior PC too?

As an ex sharer that paid £25 a week to trot a cob in a few circles and walk around the lanes ( we werent allowed to trot or canter) and i had to do all the jobs when i was there too....

There are people out there that would love th chance to ride a REAL horse that actually can move etc!!!

If you dont need the money from the sharer then just advertise for jobs to be done, if you do need the money then ask for a small donation a week.

If i was looking for a horse to share i would jump at what youre offering, just say experienced riders only in the ad, and say that you want the individual ro be able to compete etc...I would also put 16yrs and over personally. Just keep your mind open and be honest. If someone turns up to try your horse and you dont think theyre good enough or you dont like them then be really nice and let them down gently. Chances are though, someone will know if they are being overhorsed!!! Are you near a University?? Im at Uni, and there are lots of people on my riding club that do BE nad BD and share horses for the years theyre here as their horses are out on loan at home!! That could be perfect for you!

The people i used to share the horse with were actually really nice, they just werent offering a great deal. So i left and got my own mare :) They did however say that equine adverts got the best responses and its free to advertise on there too :)
