As title says, does anyone have a contract template for sending your horse out on trail. The pony we have is going on trail for four weeks on Saturday and i want to have something in writting, ie all his stuff is going with him.

And would you list all his stuff so it's proof of what went with him.

Thank you all in advance. x :D

Trial or trail?!

Asuming it is on 'trial', be very careful if you don't know the people as a lot can happen in 4 weeks eg the horse gets injured/sold on etc.

The only horse I have ever let go on trial was to a friend, who lived nearby. I did specify in writing what she was not allowed to do with him eg hunting/travelling long distances and that he had to be insured, and only gave her his basic tack and one rug. This was put in writing and signed by both parties, but have no idea if it was worth the paper it was written on! I checked on him weekly too.

Please be careful as there are too many horror stories about horses going missing on loan/trial and I would never let a horse a go on trial to a stranger.

Good luck

I think possibly there is something like this on the BHS website though not sure where. Think there may be a loan agreement you can modify. Probably not much help sorry!

Thank you

I do know the people but we all know that doesn't always mean a lot, i know where they live.
Just wanted to add things in like insurance etc....

Hi,

I would have the equivalent of a loan agreement in place, with a firm date where it is to terminate and either the horse returned or money paid (including the amount to be paid!) BHS have a template somewhere on their website. I would have an appendix listing all equipment lent with him, with a detailed description of each item; eg. size, colour, make, condition.

Also I would continue to insure him yourself, especially if only for four weeks. At the end of the day it is still your horse, who could be returned at any time in any condition, and you have no real guarantee that the loaners will have them insured, even if its in the contract. I have my horse on loan during uni term time and continue to pay his insurance just in case!

Good luck
