. I have ridden since I was 7, and am now in my forties, have owned a horse since I was 15, but circumstances have somewhat delayed my debut into the showing world!

It was only the novice equitation points show at our local riding club, but I felt as proud as if it was the Olympics

My little mare was wonderful and another club memeber borrowed her to go in the open section and did well. She did however comment on how forward going my mare is

(about three times in fact)
This is totally self indulgent, but I am still rather proud of myself

Excellent! I know just how you feel - I am in my forties and entered my first show last month. We did the dressage and came 2nd and the jumping and came 6th! I had sooo much fun - I have entered another show (my 2nd) tomorrow.
You have every reason to feel proud of yourself and your little mare.
Self-indulgence is also very much allowed!!!

Thank you, and well done to you too:D I am going to the next points show and what is known affectionately as "The old bags equitation" class at our riding club annual show. I may even enter the beautuful one in the riding club horse class

You must be over 40 to enter, I think it is so that we don't all have to feel embarassed at competing (and loosing) to all the children and snotty teenage girls:) I think every show shoud have one, it's official name is mature riders equitation.
