We have recently been lucky enough to purchase Eperlan du Foquet a legend in his own right..famous for his winning ability over the forever damanding and growning puissance wall this horse has entertained thousands of you at Olympia, horse of the year show but to name a few! winning over 30K in his international career and carrying riders to fame,he is one in a million. He is now a ripe old age 19 and still a jumping machine, he loves his life enjoying trips to the beach and hacking with every member of the family on his back. We feel truly privliged to own such a fantastic horse with so much fame and hard work behind him.

It makes me wonder where all our great horses are now,and if they are lucky enough to be continuing there once privliged lives as they get older and less usefull ?

What a lovely first post! I shall look forward to reading the replies. Unfortunately I can not offer much to this thread as I have a rather useless ex racehorse. :)

I have a multi Grand National winner :D 2nd in his first ever race and won every single race he contested over the next 3 years :D

Of my TB's only one would have been top flight stuff but sugarglass legs curtailed that career. My others are related to famous horses. Does thay count?!

Just googled Eperlan du Foquet and found some lovely pics of him showjumping in his heyday. Lovely to hear that he is in a lovely home now in his latter years, and still enjoying life - would love to see some pics of him now.

I remember years ago doing a ODE and Mr Frisk the Grand National winner was going round in the same course. There's me on my 14.2hh scruffy pony and there's beautiful Mr Frisk! He looked so beautiful, I was rather in awe.

Eperlan has a home for life with us. He is one of the finest honest and giving horses we have ever known and he may be 19 but it means nothing to him. Only a couple of months back he was at Hicksted competeing in the Main ring and loving every minute of it, we'll be keeping him out and about until he decides his had enough and doesnt canter up the ramp of the lorry!

I have a puissance comrade of his, in the form of Giacomo 102, won the HOYS puissance in 2003 and now enjoying the odd fun ride, local show and days hunting in his old age. He's 20 this year, and a true gent, probably the best horse I'll ever have the pleasure of having.

Going back a few years now I used to do veteran horse society showing with my old mare, one time we were up against the 2000 Hickstead Derby winner, Welham :) He won the class, my mare was 3rd :)

I hope he can stand as a Ambassador to all those forgotton superstars out there! they earn £££££££'s of pounds in there day and raise riders profile but nothing is put by to secure them in their old age! im sure many have fantastic homes now.. but im sure there is also a forgotton few!!!!

Im sorry i can't seem to get any pictures of him to load, i have put a few in the album if you take a look. Add "Eperlan du Fouquet" as a friend on facebook and i'll keep adding them. Thank you all so much for taking the time to read this thread.. We truly believe these horses are what make our equine community work without them there would be no olympia or horse of the year show and to top that there would be know famous top Riders!! its time to put them back in the lime light.

I used to look after an ex international showjumper. Everest Hasty Exit once jumped by Michael Whittaker. Blazer retired to his owners after ripping most of his front foot off in a freak jumping accident. He was nursed back to health and barring one slightly boxy front foot was perfect. He was a true gent in every way. You could open his door and tell him not to come out. He would then arrange his tootsies right on the doorline and crane his head out to be nosy but never ever stepped over. I'll never forget the sight of him being bandaged by the YTS (as it was then!) students, one on each leg whilst he dozed above them. He hacked a few times a week and spent the rest of his time hanging out in the field generally being a sweetie pie! I'll never forget the day he joined in a lesson and was asked to pop over a 50cm cross fence. Poor rider swore never again as he sailed over the top of the wings and bucked on landing with a huge smile on his face! Amazing lad!
