One for the gelding owners.

Happens to my friends gelding if he doesn't move around a lot. He's retired and in horrendous weather her horses are on a yard and after a few days he looks like a stallion - it's uncomfortable for him though because he walks like he has a wet nappy on. She says it's happened when he's gorged on grass too.

Can't say it's not a problem though because he was retired young due to unpredictable behaviour under saddle.

Interesting, thanks. I’ve seen that sort of reaction with a filled sheath before, but not quite the same as this. Mine is out on a track 24/7 so lack of movement shouldn’t be an issue.
 
Just as an update, ultrasound showed no intestinal involvement so not a hernia, they aren’t 100% sure what it is, fluid or tissue after gelding sitting low instead of recoiling up. We have pulled bloods to make sure it isn’t retained testicle tissue but he shows zero signs of that being a problem.
 
If it makes him uncomfortable and your vets are unable to find anything, it would be worth the effort/wait to get Tom Beech to look at him. I know it is not easy but really worth it.

Something is definitely making him uncomfortable so I may do that. I have sent him a message to see where the next clinic is. One of my bodyworkers is big in to gelding scars manipulation etc though.
 
My dog had something similar - it turned out to be just that the skin left after castration hadn't shrunk so had left a pocket that would occasionally fill with fluid. He's 7 months post castration now and it still happens now and again but when it's empty, the bagginess of the skin has almost gone now. It's happening less frequently and each time the swelling is smaller so I think it'll stop entirely soon.
 
We have one like that - had him checked and vet said it red normal and nothing to be worried about - 5 years later still no issues.
