I was put on the spot today, a relative is holidaying in Eastern Europe and a horse-mad kid there wanted to know the breed of horse that the Queen is riding in this picture. Rellie emailed it to me with the question.
I replied, I'll tell you what I said when I've seen what everyone else says (and if I was totally wrong I'll 'fess up!)

yes its a fell, her head groom rode out with her that day on a grey highland i think.
