One night last week and tonight my horse came in from the field with one hind leg really warm...not swelling, lameness and he seemed totally unconcerned...accept for holding it up when I hosed it, the kind of thing they do with a cut.
The whole leg is hot, not localised to a certain area. From under the hock down the front of the cannon to the fetlock and warmer down the cannon than the back of the leg.
This happened last week too, in the morning it was as normal as the other legs..I'm not particularly concerned as it's quite random but wondered whether anyone else had experienced this and what it turned out to be?
I'm inclined with thinking mild skin infection, maybe the start of rain scold or mudfever. I hibiscrubbed the leg and sprayed with antibacterial etc...am sure will be normal again in the morn...but your experiences would be welcomed
