So my last post on here I replied to the weekend thread saying that I was off out to a jumping clinic and would be taking part in two sessions.

The first session went really well and Dangerous Brian was a really good egg, trying hard and not doing anything too dramatic. There were no strops and no rearing and I finished chuffed to bits.

The second session was going great on Lloyd. He's very inexperienced but is incredibly honest and I was thrilled with how he was going

We came down a grid of three to an oxer and he properly pinged over it but as he landed he just pecked and I toppled off. It should have been such a ridiculously soft fall but as I rolled away my arm got trapped underneath me. As I continued rolling I was horrified to see that the top of my arm was now waving around like that French Gymnasts leg and as I came to a stop I immediately asked them to ring an ambulance.

To cut a long and pretty traumatic story short I very nearly managed to amputate my own arm and the subsequent journey to hospital and surgery and stay in ICU was pretty horrific seeing as I am allergic to opiates (no morphine!).

To say I'm gutted is an understatement and I cannot imagine it's done my already fragile confidence much good and I had so much planned with the boys as they were all going so well. On the other hand I know I've been lucky and although I have pretty extensive nerve damage most of my motor function seems pretty good.

I will just have to live vicariously through you guys so make sure you post lots of reports!

Crikey you did a proper job there! Hopefully the plates mean you can get back on quicker (ever the optimist me).

Hope you have something that works for the pain and you heal quickly.

Oh gosh, that looks horrid. It is daunting to realise that an apparently innocuous exercise could lead to that. You may well have a confidence blip but take it easy, build up slowly and I'm sure there'll be a point when you feel like you want to take it back up again. And I'm sure there are lots of fun things you can do whilst you recover, to try and keep you cheered up.

Ouch!!! Hope you have a subscription to netflix (thats what saw me through my broken ankle!) Feel better soon!

Ouch!! What a shame after two good sessions. Fingers crossed you're back on soon and that your confidence isn't damaged.

Oh no! So sorry to hear this Im gutted for you, bloomin horses eh! Hope you're not in too much pain and you're able to get up and about soon. You're so right, at least you managed to walk away, metaphorically speaking, and Lloyd is still in one piece.. sending hugs x

As you said yourself you should have just rolled away on a soft landing. Just really unfortunate and out of the ordinary so I hope it doesn't knock your confidence. Easier said than done, hope you heal quickly and are back enjoying your lovely horses in a few months.

Feeling a little less despondent today, the girls from my horseball team have been riding the boys for me so I've set about booking them into various events to say thanks. They seem really excited so at least I get to go and support from the sidelines and see my lovely horses doing their thing.

Lloyd was fine, although apparently looked a bit puzzled to see me lying on the floor for so long!

Got my first physio session tomorrow so hopefully the recovery can go from there!

Crikey, you did a proper job.

At least you don't have to worry about keeping your boys going, sounds like that side is all sorted.

Really hope you aren't in too much pain, crack on with your physio.

With regards to getting back on and your confidence, try not to overthink it. Get yourself better and if once you are back riding again and need some help, so be it :)
