very quick question.

Show on saturday... only on HC ticket but want to do it right. Now bens bum, I think its looking quite good. At devon county mostly the tiny coloureds seemed to have Q marks, and many have said not to do quarter marks if the hindquarters are weak (don't draw attention to it ;)) I do think his buxom buttox are a nice feature, but I noticed that he has some fantastic natural hammer marks only where the checks would be, which look really striking as they are. Im inclined to just leave it at this and not do sharks teeth... what do you suggest.

Dont know if you can see the hammer marks in this light but this is his sexy bum.

what do you think? Quarter marks and sharks teeth, sharks teeth alone or nothing?

Come on guys, its my final sprint... shows on saturday :D

I think I would just do sharks teeth as they will show well on the dark area, make sure you do a good sweep round each side behind to finish off and round the appearance from behind him.

For what my probably non-helpful advice is worth (:o), I would avoid quarter markers as he has mostly white on one buttock (!) so will possibly make his quarters have the appearance of being uneven from behind.

I do think sharks teeth would be a good idea though as he has dark hair around these areas, and may detract from his clip line. That being said, I (again) think a little trial to see how it looks would be good, to make sure it doesn't do the opposite and actually draw attention to them (though it shouldn't really make any great difference to the judge - I am just a picky sod when it comes to showing!).

Will be waiting with much anticipation for your update QB on Sat night! I hope you have a whale of a time and thoroughly enjoy the day.

He is not a cob type but shown as a small hunter type so should really have basic marks. At least I think he is a small under 158?

Wasn't sure of i should mention this but im fussy so if i were you i would have given him fully clip as it looks a little untidy but thats my opinion :)

Some people prefer to leave the legs on, so 'untidy' shouldn't be taken into account really.

I would leave him natural his bum is sexy as it is ;)

P.S how do you keep that tail.. clean

Thank you :D Tail wise, either baby shampoo with added purple spray or diamond white wahl shampoo, (it actually looks more yellow in pic as its semi wet) If there is a good shower coming I soak, then dip in water then turn him out with the remnants in his tail to slowly wash away (dont dip dock:rolleyes:) if its not raining, I soak and rinse. then spray in M&T conditioner to ward off stains.

Promise I will update you :D he has more energy than I have ever known at the moment, so is on a daily calmer, will have a calmer syringe tomorrow eve, another sat morning, and a good lunge before the show as the warm up area isnt great. Box ride is only 5 mins which is good.

Will practice with sharks teeth and whether or not they look good, hammer marks look lovely and really noticable in RL just along the top... will see how it goes, but glad everyone agrees not to mess with that part of him :D

Yep, hunter but small side of large hunter... he is now just touching 15.3, pity as I always think its better to be on the top end of a small ridden hunter than the bottom end of a large hunter class :( however, we may still get to 16hh

I have NO idea re quarter marks, though I do like the look of his behind as it is :P but are you off to Rambuck on Sat!?

Aye, rambuck... we are doing the second class of the day... Under three yrs in hand 15.2 and over, ben is four so doing it on a ticket, will you be there?

No thats fine, everyone is entitled to there opinion. I actually debated this and almost did it. However, when I turned up to the yard the other day for the clip, I was lucky enough to bump into Georgina Andrews, a county level judge who shows and gets placed at HOYs level. She is judging at Devon County next year. I asked her advice, and she actually said not to, that it would/should not detract from his placement. That it simply shows that he has been worked in a ridden sense and that if she were judging it would not cost a place. Now I know that every judge is different, but this is about 'achieving' in the sense of getting there and showing him, not about winning. I also spoke to his breeders and they show at county level and breed, have done all their lives... again... they don't see the lines as a negative. I must admit that I was worried as hell about his clip lines, and next year he is not having his legs left on! however, i'm reassured by the caliber of these people, their experience of the judging and showing world and their opinions on this.

:)

Ah good luck :) he is lovely!
Yes, will be in the first class, and then doing a bit of jumping later (obviously on another horse :D;))
It says on the website starting at 9:30 prompt yet on the schedule it says 9, what are you going for!? Don't want to get there at nine thirty and miss our class yet if we get there with enough time to be ready for nine and it starts at nine thirty think little gem will be a bit bored :o May ring up and ask?

we are going for 9am start, but loading up at 8 so we have just over an hour for ben to chill there first. was just generally chatting with my friend about ring starting time (I hadnt noticed the 9.30 time) and she is on the committee, she didnt say it was 9.30.

If I were you Id go for 9, better to be a bit early than miss it completely.

Im going to show in hand, then if he is good, jump on and ride around. 'if' he is calm I may take him in the coloureds ridden later in the day.

We must find each other :D x

Ah great thanks :D

Ooh exciting then, will it be his first ridden show if you hop on him!?
He'll do well, he's stunning :)

We must!
I'll be the one with the little chestnut show hunter filly most probably trying to drag me around/knock me over/on her hind legs with excitement  Shes just turned 3 and it's only her second show, her first was last summer and she didnt like leaving her field mate ;) so she's going by herself in prep for Royal Cornwall!
Haha seriously, it'd be great to meet another HHOer, though I get shy and will probably notice you but not approach because I get scared it'd be awkward and I say stupid things in awkward situations ;)

no need to be shy... i dont bite :D I will definately spot you and pounce ;) would be lovely to meet you x

First ridden show... no, first ever show! Our practice for RC too! Still working on inhand over exuberance so I reckon he will be more nuts than your filly ;)

Everything in reality will be absolutely fine for both of us :D xx If I dont catch you on here before, good luck and will see you on saturday.

If you know G.Pearce I will be with her.

if you arent 100% with quarter marks dont do it. Bad marks just look awful!

With the amount of preparation and research you have done it will be lovely to see some pics of the day itself so dont forget the camera!

no, I am fine with the 'doing' its the whether i do that is in question... he has a good booty, but I feel that the dapple/hammer marks, draw as much attention as quarter marks would... sharks teeth are a possible addition, but quarter marks, Im just not sure its worth it, plus with the patternation of the hammer marks with the quarter marks, Im not sure it would look completely right.

Will have a play tomorrow though :D

I promise to take bags of photos!!!

Ooh very exciting then! What are you doing at RC? We are doing the Pony Breeding on the Friday but I will probably be up on the Thurs also so may well bump into you...unless you are on the Saturday!

Thank you! You to - and yes we'll all be fine ;)

I'll be there most of the day anyway as not jumping until later on.

I don't know her to speak to but I know of her so will definitely keep an eye out for you :)

Oh I nearly forgot! I MAY have Supercob on me also...so you'll be looking out for a chubby roaning-chestnut cob with a ridiculous hog that sounds like a pig when he whinnies, hehe ;)

I do it this way:

1) Right click on Properties

2) c&p the URL address,

3) click on the image icon above the reply box here (the one that looks like a postcard) and,

4) delete the first set of http// as said.
