is what I have spent the last two days doing, washing the outdoor and indoor rugs ready for storage.
We have an industrial sized machine formerly used for the holiday cottages so no excuse to pay anyone else to do them..

I can't believe how many rugs we used last year, a lot of the liveries had them on plus all the foals bar one, then at least ten of our own horses on top..
I'm only a third of the way through after two days, and am fed up hoiking the things out of the machine, hanging on the fence and gates to dry, then storing again.
The only good thing is the massive space created by the heaps they had all been chucked in, at least the feedroom will be easier to work in by the end of the week.
What do people pay for a rug wash?

I think I pay £17.50 for an outdoor one to be done properly. Seems quite a lot when you're having 3 or 4 done, think if you paid that for all yours to be done you could buy yourself another industrial washer!

Ive just paid £52 for 5 rugs to be done, two needed repairs on them which was included in the price. The rest of my LW rugs go in my washing machine at home!

Just taken 2 turnout and 1 h/weight stable in to be properly cleaned (and re-proofed in the case of the turnouts). The rest I take to the launderette. The owner is more than happy for me to use the machines there, they seem to come up well for a fraction of the cost.

£14 for a T/O with filling, and £7.50 for neck rugs which are de-tatchable to be washed and reproofed/repaired as neccessary. Lightweights I do in the washing machine at home along with coolers when no-one else is in....
Thicker stable rugs go to the launderette and coast £10 each for a wash (same cost as duvet).
Suddenly the money seems worthwhile!

So far I've never had any of my rugs cleaned - and I'm coming up to my 4th or 5th year in horses - can't remember exactly!!! And most rugs are that age...

the light weight ones can go in the machine....

Ducks from all those who must now think i'm a bad mother !!

I take all my stuff to a laundrette which has varying sizes of industrial sized machines. I use the biggest one and last time I unbelievabley managed to wash all of the following in one load:
4 travel boots, 2 girths, 2 numnahs, 4 brushing boots, 2 fly rugs, a medium weight turnout and a hood and three towels. I was amazed to say the least- cost me £4 plus I used the water extractor machine for 50p each load (had to use it three times) to get most of the water out and then hung it all up at the yard.

I've just paid £12 for each NZ and £9 for stable rugs - can add another £5 on top of NZ prices if they needed re-prooft but I've found that the Horseware ones don't need it every time. What a money saver for a rad, having your own machine. I guess they are hanging on every fence now? Hope the sun shines and there is a breeze! ANother idea my friend has was to use the storage bags whoich you attach a vacuum cleaner to and suck out all the air, easier to stack apparently and smell better??
