Ahh had SUCH a good day with Gem today. I brought her in from the fields with the intention of doing some loading practise for Patchetts tomorrow...until we decided not to go tomorrow and we're going on the 15th instead lol, but thats another story!
So, I brought her in and the lady who will take me to Patchetts (Mia) said she would clip Gem's feathers for me, Gem has never liked clippers, and I've never really needed to clip her so haven't tried to get her used to them, but she stood like a rock and was so good. So now my girlie has nice new feet

Then, we went in the school with Mia and her horse and did some really good jumping work, I have kind of realised that I'm never going to have a calm horse coming into jumps, I just need to learn how to ride her to get her going as nice as possible, and today it totally clicked and she was taking off exactly where I wanted her to!

THEN we did loading practise, and possibly the most shocking thing of the day, she walked straight up the ramp, TWICE! This is so so good for Gem who tends to have massive tantrums when faced with loading!
After loading, we were standing at the bottom of the ramp talking to Mia, and the ramp had come up as nothing was weighing it down, and Gem put her foor on it and tried to take me up into the lorry!!!

We couldn't believe it!!

Anyway, sorry for the long, self indulgent happy post, but I've had such a good day! Gem and I have come such a long way, I'm so proud of her

See, I don't know because we took her to and from the vet college in a lorry and ended up with about 7 people trying different things to get her up...with me standing in the background shutting my eyes and hoping she'd be on when I opened them lol!
This lorry's ramp is quite low, which I think is why she didn't mind it

I just read your post Weezy, am inspired to go and do the same tomorrow!

Aww thanks, I think that after all the problems and lameness and confidence issues I had with her last year, I am really appriciating the little things that she does that make me happy. She's no superstar, but I am enjoying her so much, my attitude towards her and her quirks has changed so much since she's been back in work, I'm just thankful she's sound! LOL

Ah I must have missed out on the issues you were having with her, I would never have guessed you had confidence issues with her in the past with the size of your smile in the pics you post!

I think it would have been before you joined, at the beginning of '06 I wanted to give up, and had major confidence issues, jumping scared me witless, I would only do walking on hacks, whenever we schooled it would always be a battle to get her round to my way of thinking, she was totally the wrong horse for me to buy as I wasn't experienced or confident enough on horses (I had come from a 13hh new forest onto a firey 15.2 tb x connie) I'm not saying I regret buying her, but she was definitley the wrong horse for me 2 and a half yrs ago, it's taken 2 years for me to be confident enough to enjoy her lol!
Luckily we've come through the bad stuff now though and I really am glad I bought her.
