One rule for them another for the rest?

Please excuse my ignorance, but shouldn't the love of the sport be more important than the statement "If I go, I go to win"? It just seems that getting a medal or a ribbon is not good enough for Anky or the love of the sport and it made her sound a bit snooty and stuck up.

I know little to nothing about dressage, only that it takes a lot of training, talented horses, patience, a good trainer, and a lot of work to get to where they are today.

So if someone could explain this to me I would greatly appreciate it.

I just hope the FEI sticks to the rules. She hasn't qualified so doesn't deserve to be there( on salinero).
The article smacks of arrogancy tbh.

I don't know anything about dressage but the article certainly makes them both appear very arrogant in that the rules apply to mere mortals but we are Mr & Mrs Dressage so should automatically have an invite

Having said that and despite the article dressage fans will want to see big names and their top horses.

Sjef sure knows how to "make friends and influence people....." LOL. They messed up with the qualifications so they need to suck it up. Laura B messed up her qualifications too by not doing enough shows but she's not asking for the rules to be changed! They should take Painted Black and compete like everyone else.

If she hasn't qualified - for what ever reason she shouldn't go. I have no doubt if the boot was on the other foot and another rider was in the same position they would be among the first to cry foul! By her not being there some of the other riders may get a look in instead of being overshadowed.

It might be a challenge for the judges!! This must surely open the field and will make the event far more interesting. I often find myself seeing a couple of top names and thinking that they will 'probably' win. If Painted Black has qualified that must mean he is a superb dressage horse - the comments from Sjef & Anky make her other ride sound like a machine which you just turn up on and win!! Is it really a horse or an equine android?

Quote from the article "Anky considers the decision of the FEI disappointing. "It's a shame. I don't think our sport has many big names. It seems good to me that for the sport as many big names are allowed to participate," she commented."

I know there's no need to be to modest, but still, neither of them mention Salinero other than that she can win on him, but on Painted Black she might not even get a medal. Had they at least said that people would want to see Salinero... Maybe they did say it, but it didn't get included in the article, but I don't know what might have been edited out or not, what I do know is that they don't mention Salinero much.
If it is just the big rider names people come to see, then she can compete on her qualified horse and the audience will get what they want.

I admit that if she's allowed to take Salinero I will be holding my fingers crossed they don't win.

I hope they stick to the rules that article sounds so arrogant - she knew the rules very well especially as her partner was involved in making them there is no reason as to why this should come as a surprise to her imo.

and we wont go if we cant win, strop strop stroppy.... like a toddlers tantrum.

Agree with that!
She knows the rules(her husband helped make them for gods sake) and it is unfortunate that an injury stopped her getting him out a second time but she is not qualified with Salinero so shouldnt be able to take him.

Wow, I know Anky's good (although she never seems to actually halt at the end of her tests

). But I've got to say her attitude to this sucks, she's acting like a spoilt child.

Needs get down off her high horse!!!
If she didn't qualify she should not take him, and if she chooses to not take Painted Black because they will not win and miss out on the entire competition then it is pathetic, she needs to be taken down a peg (or placing!) or two!

Well as she is obviously going to win if she rides Salinero (according to her husband anyway) perhaps the best thing to do is automatically award her the top medal (saving them the effort of the journey etc.) and allow everyone else to compete for the lower awards.!!!!!

I have to say, I'm sure there were quite a few people just waiting for something like this, where they could stick to their guns and enforce the rules without it seeming personal. I suspect if they'd been better ambassadors for the sport (whatever one thinks of their training etc.) more people would have been prepared to at least entertain the idea of discussing some sort of exception. Goes to show what goes around . . .

Whilst I understand that this is their life and livelihood, I think this comment is a bit out of order:

Janssen does not expect his wife to ride Painted Black. "With Painted she can win a medal, or finish eighth. And for that she won't travel half the globe. If she goes, she goes to win," Janssen said.

That, to me, says toy out of the pram...

Now Now...don't you go bothering your betters with noises like that. It's not two rules, it's one...for you.

Remember Anky's lovely halt? Me either, she didn't happent to do that...her horse was WAY too forward to have to halt...and she won.

Guess dressage tests are different too!
