I used sheepskin cheek pieces for the first time at Pontispool the other day (Squeaky was fab in them) but i was told off for doing so, and to take it as a warning.. needless to say i took them off for the XC ...

anyway, mine were natural coulour, so did stand out a bit... but otherwise EXACTLY the same as these...

(hope you don't mind me borrowing your pic bantheban ?? )

they count as "blinkers".

Have to say we've used them BE with no problems, never take the piss as in use dark ones on dark horse/light on light horse and never too big or fluffy. Think it depends which official you get.....

I thought it sounded funny, and I was miffed as I wanted to try W in them (I think full-on blinkers are best but I know I'm not allowed them!), and I knew Zara wore them at least when she won Bramham in 2002. Ring BE tomorrow and ask for clarification.

Michael Ryan used really obvious white ones in the 2 * at Ballygraffan today. When I saw him in the distance I thiught he was using one of those garish white bridles that some racehorses wear, but when he came closer it was just loads of sheepskin.

I woudln't ring up as you could end up shooting yourself in the foot with a big fuss being made and them being made into a big issue at all events. Next time try brown ones - bet you get away with them!

no they didn't, they only saw them from the judges box of the SJing... i then went off to walk the course, and was half way round when i hear over the loud speaker than i had to go to the sec. tent

, when i got there i was told that dad had already been and sorted everything out... dad just told me to take them off, and it was just a warning.... trouble is, he was sooo good in them.. i'd rather like to keep him in them.

Interested to know how they help and why did you use them.Is it to get the horse to focus on the jump. What was happening before for you to try then?

[/ QUOTE ]

They stop the horses attention being taken by whats behind them and instead concentrate in front of them.

I would definately contact BE if I were you and show those pictures as evidence! There cant be rules for one person and something else for another no matter if your zara phillips or mrs smith. As for colour......as long as there not neon green or anything really shouldnt come into it!

A horse wore them at Blenhiem if i remember rightly, this was before the rule came in and was asked to remove them.
Now it clearly states size so I cannot see a problem.
The only thing i would consider is to dye them brown/black to draw less attention.

As some of you will know im the steward at Blenhiem for the SJing and towards the end of the day the rules for the warm up change, and riders get to do what they like wiht the warm up fences

if i complain i get over ruled by the FEI steward

I would take your rule book to highlight the fact you can indeed wear them!

MDM/GeorgieGirl - I think that's a bit harsh on Zara to be honest. I don't think it's got anything to do with who you are, more who you get spotted by! MDM - I'd definitely suggest getting more discrete ones that comply with the rules, I can't possibly imagine they'll have reason to complain if you do that. Glad they work for you!

suggest you use dark ones and trim them to under 3cm not a problem then. Francis Whittington uses them on Sir Percival and others when necessary.

I agree it should be the same for everyone.
Your fleecy things do look a bit "in your face" in comparison, so I would simply dye them black or brown or chesnut to match the horse..
I bet they are exactly the same size it's just the colour..
I wouldn't make a fuss with BE, but carrying that pic of Zara in your pocket may just shut any complainers up.
