Hi there I was wondering if anyone had come across this is the past. My 5 year old mare has had one slightly larger teat, she's always had it whilst I've owned her - just over a year. I pointed it out to the vet just after I got her, but she was unconcerned about it, and just thought it was the way she was.

Anyway, I'd pretty much forgotten about it until this morning. Was washing her off around her stifles and she went to lash out, which isn't like her at all. I had a look underneath and it appears the larger teat now looks quite a bit larger and I'm wondering if it's sore from her reaction earlier.

She is not and never has been pregnant. Obviously, I will get the vet out ASAP if needed but I wondered if anyone has ever seen in before. Her diet, and routine has not changed recently.

Yes, I agree with all possibilities above - thanks. Think I'll get the vet out Monday just in case. Would like to have a good feel to check for any obvious heat or lumps but guessing by today's reaction she'd have my head off!

Had something similar before, think it was probably a fly/mozzie bite. It went down within a couple of days and didn't seem painful.

Is your mare normally touchy about you feeling around there?

I have touched round her udders before but she isn't overly keen, I will try have a good go at washing them tomorrow and take her temperature. She seemed bright eyed and bushy tailed this morning and had eaten up well so she didn't seem ill at all. Will keep you all updated and thanks for all the comments - very helpful

My old pony used to have one bigger than the other, you could even milk it! Had never foaled either. Vet was also unconcerned and it never changed. But I was told not to milk it otherwise she'd keep producing it!

Take her temp and if its normal, just monitor :)
