Nothing wrong with something old so long as it is fit and healthy and you are willing to take the risk of it popping its clogs without warning, and having the wrath of its owner if they are upset and vent it on you

A few years ago the riding school I was riding at when I had nothing to ride had a pony who was 41 I believe who still did lessons. He didn't do lots of work but plenty to keep him going

hey dont worry as long as your happy screw them lol
ive just got on loan a 17yr young!! horse so im in the same boat but im happy and hes happy thats all that counts chin up hun

I used to ride a 24yr old for her owner....she was supposed to be semi-retired but her owner asked me to bring her back into work because she enjoyed it so much! I ended up competing her a few times and the biggest was 1m, the only reason we didn't win was because i made a mistake over the last!!

there is nothing wrong with oldies....they can often give you the best years of your life!! This little 15/15.1hh mare did...although she is retired now (her tendons) i swear she would still be working now if her tendons hadn't given up. But i probably wouldn't have Hemir if they hadn't!!!

stop listening to what they said, if your happy then thats all that counts!!!

good luck

Age is only a number

. Most people can't believe Chex is 25, he just doesn't act it at all. As long as you listen to them, and don't push them there's no reason why they can't do all the things a younger horse can do, providing they're in good health of course.

thanks u all hav boosted my spirits she ised to do endurance and she has only been not working for a couple of months so i think she'll be fine

i loan a 15 year old and she is a little bugger! So enjoy!!!!!!! They will be soooo jelous when you are having fun!

We are just about to collect a 16 year old and I have previously paid very good money for a 21 year old who was worth his weight in gold. I love the oldies, theyre either very caring, looking after the rider or they are canny old sods who can give you loads of fun.

i think i'm gonna stick wi the oldies for a while cause i'm just hacking out an stuff the now as i am renting land, no school or anything, and to be honest they do keep u safe and sound they really care about the people lookin after them

We have a 27 year old on loan and she is fabulous - been there, done everything and got the t-shirt to prove it. She is in glorious condition and is perfect for my new-rider husband to learn on. He is thinking of entering her in a veterans class at our local show. Most people can't believe she is 27 as she looks so well. There are, however, the b**ches on the yard who would never think to give you a compliment if you suddenly had Toytown in your stall.
