My horse has one warm hind foot, and also warm around the coronary band. All other feet are cold all over, he is not lame in any way and is moving without discomfort. What could be the cause of it? He does have a small nick next to the coronary band on that foot, just been putting sudocrem on and its been a little sore to touch, but nothing major. No heat or swelling on the legs and he is shod all round.

Thanks :)

Has he got a digital pulse?

Mine has exactly the same at the moment - he wasn't quite right at the start but OK a couple of days later, although his foot is still slightly warm and a slightly elevated pulse. I am treating as laminitis as he has Cushings and EMS and had laminitis in June. I don't think it's an abscess as it would have been worse, but he could have bruised it as we did a stony ride the day before this happened.

Mine gets warm hooves when she has bad thrush. Give them a good clean and spray with either stock tar, iodine or peroxide (this needs to be done with syringe and be super careful around hair!), then keep on top of it with regular disinfecting.

My farrier used to say that warm/cold feet mean nothing at all and I think he is right......if you have no other symptoms. Tomorrow you might well find that foot is the same as the others !

The foot is much cooler today, thought I felt heat but I was probably imagining it! I did give it a good scrub though so could have been thrush perhaps , although he gets them picked out twice a day so I like to think they are kept clean. I'll take your farrier's word for it Bonny, I'm sure he knows what he's on about!
