Hi, I havent been on here in ages, sooo much has changed.

Here's a pic of the lad one day old, and one year on. Any ideas on breed of the father? Mums a haffie (i have asked this question before, just wondered if anyone see's something else in him now he's a wee bit older?) Also what colour would you say he is.

Thanks

i'd say he is sort of dark dun, to me he has an exmoor type head just cause of the look of his muzzle and nose etc but then he looks to big

Oh thanks, he's about 13hh. I wonder how big he will get? They grow in height until 2 years, don't they? Then fill out?

Someone has suggested dad might of been Ardennes (mum was from holland, so this might be a possibility)

I would say the dad was exmoor, as he just has that look about him. And think he's bay, as he has the light rings around his eyes, the dark rims around his ears and dark legs. If he was dun, he would have to have a dorsal stripe, with about 2/3 of his ears darker than the rest of them.

what a sweetie, mine is a year old this month. His mum was a haffie fjord cross her owner did not know she was in foal until stormy popped out, was yours imported? if so where from? storms mum came via germany. I can send you some pic if you want.
His dad is a holsteiner.

they are so cute

Oh yes please, i love looking at pics...Mum was imported from Holland, thats all i know. I didnt know she was in foal until 3 weeks before foalie poped out! Bit of a shocker!

I would say native type also!
When I first saw the picture of what he looks like now I thought Exmoor

I thought he looked like an Exmoor too but it seems unlikely if he's dutch. Do they have them over there?

He's very very lovely what ever he is though! Awww

Another vote for bright bay exmoor here, although as said before me, if mum came from Holland, exmoor seems unlikely, in which case iam out of ideas!!

i would say a light bay. i think the mealy muzzle and exmoor looks are a red herring. These are probably markings from the dominant colouring of the haffy. A bit like when crossing a fjord with another solid coloured horse. I dont think its ardennis (sp?) either as they really are very big chunky horses and he dosnt look that chunky to me, but also the mare is only small, so i cant imagine someone putting something liek that to her. (not impossible though i suppose) The father couldbe anything, it could be some sort of mixed bred pony. He does have a pony look about him, but again i woudl say thats probably more from the haffy dam. His head isnt as large, so im thinking maybe he has something finer in his breeding as well.

He could grow intill 7 years old. Although most of that will probably be filling out.

what a cutie! His colour is hard to tell given that he's still full of winter baby fluff but at the moment I'd call him dun.

As for sire I think given his size now at a year old and where he came from (or his mother), smaller native pny breeds should be ruled out. He will carry on growing up to and beyond the age of 5. Equines don't actually stop growing til they are 7. But you're right, a lot of his growing will be done by two. I wouldn't be suprised if he made 15hh + and his sire was a bigger draught type horse as he is quite stocky given his age.

He Looks a very nice horse.

my first thought was bay exmoor/new forest....but not so sure if mum was from abroad. Really cute looking horse though.

Don't rule out the Ardennes! I say this because my 2 year old has a Haffie Mum & a Comtois (not dissimilar to Ardennes) Dad.
To look at him, you would never guess what his Dad could be.
Oh, go on then, here's a photo....

Well, he's very unlikely to be exmoor! - they're a rare enough breed as it it and there certainly isn't lots of cross breeds around. And certainly not in Europe!

If he's from Europe he's also unlikely to be a british native cross. I would have said highland pony if i hadn't know that (got the size and build)

If he's 13hh now at a year old he's going to make a good 15hh+, so with a 14.2 ish haffie mum then dad will have been nearer 16hh. And stocky - he looks like he'll be heavier than mum.

this is storm he is now a year old

mummy is a haffie/fjord cross and daddy was a one night stand holsteiner, storms colouring comes from his mum, she is more fjord than haffie. His summer coat is coming through, he is alot lighter than these winter photos.

misty was imported from holland but came through germany, the holsteiner had his way at least four other mares.

Thanks for all your suggestions, you guys are great. But now im confused....I will go with a a brown cute cob then ! does that sum him up ?
