Entered a local 50cm ODE. Cob and I have been out of action for just under a year and have had big confidence knocks but recently have finally been getting him out and enjoying him again. I am in my 30s and appear to be the only adult/horse combination according to the line up.

Someone give me a kick up the arse and tell me it's totally fine to enter "kids" classes and nothing to be embarrassed about. I swear this is meant to be fun.

When I lived in the UK, my bestie and I used to Gymkhana every year in the open class at local shows. It was just us two middle aged ladies and mostly 16, 17 year olds competing against us. Wonderful fun and even at the disadvantage of having to scramble on and off a horse rather than a pony, I still managed to beat them all on my horse in every class, every year. (yes I am boasting and yes I do still have my trophies! 😅) I stopped when I moved home again at the grand old age of 50 and sadly there are not any open gymkhana classes anywhere near where we moved to.

You go for it and have a thoroughly enjoyable time. Why should the kids have all the fun?☺️

I also compete against kids. Enormosaurus is just starting competing so our first one was a 60cm against two Shetland ponies. Our competitors could have limboed under her belly.
I was often the only person on a pony in the higher classes before as well.
I obviously like to stand out!

Posted too soon! Go out and enjoy your class and show the youngsters how it's done!

It’s absolutely fine and that is what the class is for: people having a go to see if they like it, people on their new horse to see how they get on with it without it being too stressy, people on young horses, people getting confidence back, people gaining confidence, people doing a warm up before the 60 or 70cm, people who have never done a competition before at all, plus all the kids on their tiny ponies or their new big ponies they aren’t used to yet, etc. Go for it!

I did arena eventing last winter , the Diddy jumps class, and told the kids in the warm up for the same class as me that if they added together all their ages they still wouldn't be as old as me 🤣🤣

Go for it and have fun 😊

I've been surrounded by cute kids in fancy dress lead by mum on shetlands. I was totally 'all the gear no idea'. Tbh, if I had been placed I would have stepped aside and let the next person (child) take my placing and rosette.
Edited to add - I had a great time and am hoping to go again this year
