I am one of the nervous gang but not for much longer I hope, I have now decided enough is enough!! I am booking myself in for lessons to help me improve my seat and not be so bloody nervous! I think I am nervous because I don't have a strong seat and have no core muscles due to an op I had and no sense of balance what so ever so am likely to fall or slide off for no reason what so ever! Lol

My downfalls are nerves no sense of balance and poor seat so I have decided whilst I can't ride my own horse I am going to go for lessons to help me with my seat which will hopefully help me with my nerves as the same time. Hopefully helping me to help my horse when he is due to start light work.

Let's hope it helps!

Pointless post but just wanted to share my hopefully positive decision!

Vino for those who read my pointless post x

Sounds like a pretty positive plan! I'm a nervous creaky older rider and am struggling with my nervous mare. The idea of lessons make sense, but I haven't anywhere to ride her suitable for having lessons. So I'm thinking of going to a riding school and trying to build my confidence. It's just the expense rather puts me off.

Go for it though!

Good for you!
I'm trying to sort myself out this winter too. To help improve my balance and core strength I also invested in a gym ball (£5 Tesco). Even just sitting on it whilst you watch the t.v helps. I can now get on the ball on my knees and balance which I had no chance of doing before! Good luck with your lessons and keep us informed x

Thanks guys will do. Also going to do Pilates to help me. I did start pole dancing to help build my core muscles but it didn't help my back although my core muscles had the best workout ever - Sneeze, cough, laugh and I would end up in tears as it hurt so much.

Lessons it is!! Not looking forward to the cost but I am looking a it being beneficial so I will happily pay.

Thats fab! I have the same nerves issue after an accident I had. The point came where even the school horses scared the life out of me. My RI had a conversation with me about a few lessons on whether I wanted to carry on spending money if I was uncofortable (she was very right). That day I became more determined and the exercises I was doing changed the way I thought. I needed to forget what was underneath me and get on with it, before I knew it I was doing well. Realy wish I kept a diary, I still get very nervous but when I get off its a great feeling. Im not a great rider but feel good about it all again thats what matters (plus a very good RI).

Have fun with your lessons, and hopefully you will feel a differnece in youreslf soon :) The little wee things tend to be the ones that matter.
Let us know how you get on xx
