Just had to rant!! Am just back from yard and doing our lot -2 stabled ,1 at grass.Thing thats bugging me is theres a horse on our yard whose bl**dy owner rarely turns up to see to horse!Yes thats her choice thats not what irks me or even the fact that she gets everyone else on yard to do it -its up to them to say no,tho only 1 is now doing it all rest are sick of it and say not at yard etc if called! No what bugs me is horse is in my field and stable block so if not done by others its just left to whoever takes last horse out of field usually my two.I wouldn't mind if I had plenty time but work full time day shift and have family etc so find I cut time with my lot to take other horse in,put hay water in not a lot I know but when time is a premium its a bug.
OH has now said he doesn't care if horse is in field all night itself - not the horses fault its owners decided to ignore it!!He's sick of it.
I couldn't leave it in field on its own nor could I leave it in stable with no hay or water as doubtful owner would be up to put it out in morning either!
Understand person is now in job etc but so am I!!!!!!!!Just really really p***ed off at owner right now as prob worse next week as person who used to do it at least a good few days has now said no way!!
Ok rant over !!
Aaaaah that feels better!!

What does the YM/YO do about it? They should be charging for looking after this person's horse, not leaving other liveries to look after the poor thing.

Have it out with her - explain that if you do anything then you WILL charge her for your services, and it is up to her to, at least, ensure the horse's box is ready for it in the evening with water and hay done.

There is no manager as such. Its totally diy on a working farm.Farmers great gives hay etc but really doesn't actually have anything to do with running yard as such.If it carries on tho did think may have to have a word with him.-carries on thats a laugh it been going on for most of this year and end of last!!But as horse wasn't at risk was ok.It was miserable tho-its a people horse loves attention!

Don't think it would make any difference to be honest,Weezy It has been tried and don't think it even sank in as said she would do such and such day(didn't) if other did rest even tho person said no didn't want to do.
As its diy we all muck in to help each other but it usually works both ways. And I honestly don't mind helping people out when and if I can and wouldn't mind doing horse occasionally but its not just occasionally.Thing is its a lovely sweet natured horse so does everyone do it cos they feel sorry for it YES!!myself included!!
Suppose it will carry on for while then I may will loose it!!!!!

Do you have this girls number?

I'd be tempted to leave him in the field next time and call her saying your horse is out on his own! and as there is no bedding/ hay or water in stable i didnt bring him in!

Of course I'd probably go back up hours later to check she had actually bothered her ass to do something about it.

Unfortunately you have all made a rod for your own back here!!

Having been on a farm were the farmer great with hay etc,not quite sooo good at sorting his liveries, why????He aint going to upset anybody,he aint bothered who does what as long as he gets his livery money!!we had an understanding with a couple of other girls who looked after there horses like we did ours and we did em between us,however if that meant that joe bloggs was left out on its own soo be it!!It is diy and unfortunately if you have only the time to do your own,do it,the other is not your responsibility!!!What will happen when it runs out of feed???will so called owner expect you all to use yours??Its hard i know but unless you say,NO this aint happening anymore she will walk all over you alll!!!

I had the same problem on my old yard, I spoke to the yard owner and she told me to leave the horse out on its own.
It galloped about the first few times then settled down.
If its owner was that bothered they would come and get it in themselves

poor pony

Totally agree with you there,we have all let it go on and on.
Have seen owner say twice in bout 4-5 weeks, not bad for a stabled horse eh!!

Oh if food ran out it would just do without. It has been known to spend a whole day and night in a stable until someone notices and gives it hay and water -usually my OH otherwise it would have went 24 hrs without. And yes it probably would be better to do that and let it suffer as then could maybe get something done but as stabled next door to my 2 couldn't in all concsience (?sp).

have you spoken to the owner? and i dont mean politely, i mean excuse me but you are DIY and your horse needs looking after !! and you wouldnt know if it had a leg hanging off. some people are so selfish and just take advantage of other people's better nature.

Yes do and she has been phoned and text but usually doesn't answer or says she get can't get lift or some tale of woe!(which may or maynot be true but you get a bit cynical night after night)There a bl**dy bustop RIGHT outside yard!
Will have to toughen up methinks!

Sad aint it.I have a friend that would take it on full loan if it would live out 24/7 -it would! But owner wants it stabled so not going to happen as friend works shifts so horse would be in same boat if stabled.Really don't know why she doesn't just sell or at least full loan.

For the horse's sake at least thank goodness you and at least one of the other liveries are looking after it. Not that that makes it acceptable in any way, shape or form. I've had this happen to me in the past, and just like you I can't leave a horse out on its' own at night if it is going to be distressed, nor would I every put a horse in a stable without at least a bed, hay and water.

I would be tempted to speak to the owner and say that unless she starts taking responsibility for her own horse you will either a. start charging her for looking after her horse and/or b. that you will report her to the ILPH/RSPCA for neglect. Even if that is just to call her bluff.

There are lots of genuine horse owners out there, what a shame for this lovely sounding horse that he got lumbered with a numpty. As TM says she has a friend who would take the horse on full loan, as I am sure many many other people who would love a horse and look after it properly would.

Sorry, rant over!

I would leave it out, and send a carefully worded text each night for a while saying 'yours was still out when I left, assume you are on grass livery now'

I got conned like this a few years back, always bringing in two as the other horses owner didn't get back until late. She just assumed I would do it (she left in the end).

Id text her saying 'your horse is out in the field going nuts coz its on its own, thought id let u no so you can come down here and sort it...'

We have discussed this at yard apparently no-one wants to do horse now but there always one who says ok.As kids are at school next week should get worse,if mare not been seen to am going to see YO about horse and maybe suggest he tell owner that if horse isn't looked at it will be put in with grass liveries!he may or may not agree to do this as he has known owner for a few yrs but he is a reasonable guy so worth a try.
