Did my first W&T on new horse yesterday. It was at home so no excuses.

In the warm up he was fairly good, a little excited and tiny bit nappy towards friends but wasn't allowed to get away with it so then worked in very nicely

Into arena Micah tenses and isn't really listening so mom goes to pot went wrong in test and queried my caller had the right test (oops sorry chris!)

Whole test was nose poking out and tense. Oh well at least he didn't piss off saying 'I am NOT doing dressage, like my last one'

Back in the warm up he decided he had finished and started napping badly to the gate and other horses leaving arena

Now he is a bendy bouncy sort so NOT the sort you can smack as he would explode, (i'm sure at least some of you will know the type)
he ignored leg so I tapped him, he didn't take any notice of that so tried spinning, couldn't do that either cos mom had him.
I growled and put leg on again, off he went sweet as a nut lol If he did this once he did it a dozen times. So cruel mom made him circle towards and away from the gate until he did it nicely

. Then took him down the other end of the school and got off.

I think we need to practice going from one arena to the other, and other horses leaving (have done bits of others leaving obviously not enough)

we got 56. something and a 10th rosie always nice

Lots of friends turned out to support me which was so lovely!! One even commented on what a lovely position I have

Another lesson learnt

He does sometimes make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, little sod....with my duff ankle I just can't afford to hit the deck and I think it makes me extra cautious, but there was no way he was going to get away with napping

Oh I was just wondering how Micah was getting on.

It doesn't sound like a disaster for the first time though. What score did you end up with. Sounds like he has a cheeky streak so you are doing the right thing by insisting he does as told!!

Yeah he certainly is a cheeky toad!! Had a huge spook and spin yesterday, he spun that fast I don't know which way he went, just next thing I know we are cantering the other way lmao All over some buckets that seemed to move and talk on their own (it was dark and could not see the person) lmao so can't blame him really

My horse is much better when he is away from home because he needs me more and therefore will listen, at home he is very secure so has the "I know what i am doing" attitude.

Maybe try a test away from home so he only has you to listen to, not all his friends.

Well done for still teaching him right from wrong not always easy to do with an audience.
