oops recall training hadnt gone as well as thought!

Well we have had our new girl for a few weeks and had been diligently working on her recall on long lines which had gone well, she had been really good off lead with our boy but until monday had not been tested off lead with other dogs apart from ours. On monday evening we took the both if them to our local park and let them go with no other dogs around and she was great at coming back on request, went further into the park and as we walked down a track she spotted a labrador in the field on the right and "simply had to say hi". I guess the recall wasnt as good as she had let us believe so if you were walking your lab in lydiard park on monday night and encountered two overly friendly malamutes I apologise, to anyone in swindon who fancies bringing their dogs out with us it seems nula needs a bit of extra socialising so any friends are welcome.

i didn`t think malamutes had recall lol.

my dog(not a malamute) has been on lead in the fields lately because of the huge amount of deer/rabbits around here ,he even managed to put up deer in Lydiard park.

I'm another who thought Malamutes didn't have a recall sounds like you just need to proof the recall

Other 2 mals recall is fab, just got lulled into false sense of security with her, dont think she was socialised much by previous owners and the chance to make a New Friend is too much for her. She has ignored rabbits and birds whilst Training so thankfully its not prey driven with her just a désire to play lol

Malamute owners have eyes in the back of their heads lol recall can be good but I don't believe any dog will ever be 100% trusted.
My girl is let off but only in places I know are safe also she is very good orientated so I always make sure I have a pocket full of treats

Haha our collie is in this stage too, fine until another dog shows up! Good job on the malamute I too didn't think they had any recall!

Shes my 3rd mal and they have all been pretty good, ie never far away from you, if you pretend you are leaving them they are back like a rocket but where my boy is amazing and will stop and wait for any other dog to come to him and be back at your side in a shot as soon as you call him both the girls have been a bit more stubborn, essentially they are like " yeah yeah we hear you mum but we arent far away, we know this walk so we will just go and make friends with these people, then we will be right back i promise"
