Well my mare had her op November 08 (psd)

But since then ive had alot of changes in her :

The first year she almost experienced a slight sleep disorder , if she was tied up outside her stable she would fall so deeply asleep she would fall to her knees then wake up quickly and wonder what had happened. Was quiet scary to see so couldnt tie her up outside anymore then started re introduce it and now she hasnt done it for about 7 months (touching wood)!

Weight gain has been HARD was a very very good doer before but now im constantly trying to keep it on and is now only just finally in the last few months finally looking better but any little stress can cause her to lose weight!

Also she has become very sensitive to sugars in the grass so much so that she has had to be muzzled this year!

So was just wondering if anyone has experience anything simular dont have to be the same but any diffrent to what they was before the op (any op)

thanks kelly

My horse has been left with SEVERE allergies after KS surgery. Never asny problems before and within 10 days post surgery he was having full blown allergic attacks - to the point I had 3 emergency visits to administer IV steroids before he went into anaphalactic shock. :(

3 years on he has improved but still get problems on an almost monthly basis

Really god how strange!

wonder if there is any vets on here that can give an answer?

surgery well something that happens whilst having surgery must just change something in there systems. glad im not alone though. sorry to here about yours hopefully your horse will improve more its very weird.

How strange! My horse has had two GAs in his (short) life and didn't seem to have any ill effects from either of them. I have heard of humans having reactions to the anesthetic drugs so maybe this is something similar?:confused:

I would think the "sleep disorder" has ceased because your horse can lie down with ease now whereas was probably inhibited from lying down regularly to get proper sleep due to discomfort beforehand. Its not unusual for horses who are known to "fall over" in their stables to imporve drastically after join medication or surgery so the same could be siad for PSD.
