hi all just wondering what your opinions are on acavallo gel in seat saver ? i want to get one but worried about the gel going onto the saddle will mark the saddle as my seat is like synthetic leather. its an ideal saddle half leather half synthetic leather. Many thanks

Hmmm..... well I've never actually ridden in one, only just sat on a saddle which had one on, at a horsey event (the item was a little beyond my budget at the time but I thought there's no harm in "having a sit"!!).

I am not sure whether it is indeed these type of seat savers, but I seem to recall seeing/reading something about them a while ago - it was a situation where the fixing straps which go under the saddle??? - had caused a saddle-sore on a horse.

Sorry but can't remember anything much more, but there is something in the back of my mind, I have a feeling it WAS the Acavello seat-saver......

Perhaps someone else on here will know??

I have the Acavallo gel out seat saver because I needed a bit more stickability with my very spooky pony and the only thing I have found that marks the saddle are the straps that secure it and they cause more of an indentation rather than a long lasting mark. The top of the saddle which was brand new hasn't got a mark on it and I can't even recall what the underside of it is made of so if you aren't sure about a gel in I can recommend the gel out instead.

The straps shouldn't cause rubbing on the horse either if they are fitted correctly and you use a numnah or saddle pad.

I have the gel in one and it is a good seat saver comfortable hard wearing and easy to keep clean. I cut off the fixing straps I found them unnecessary. I kept the Velcro strap and the ears that sit over the skirts . Over time it did leave a slightly sticky residue on the leather saddle and I was unable to scrub it off without leaching out some of the leather dye too but I had not cleaned the saddle for a year if I had cleaned it more regularly perhaps that would not have happened. I have used it on other saddles since without problem. The gel out one would have been too sticky for me I like to be able to move in the saddle a bit so the gel in one with the suede type seat was perfect for me. Overall I am pleased with it and would buy another.
