as long as you look smart!
It would depend on the discipline you are competing in too - there are turnout rules for riders.

i don’t think it would be a problem for SJ! Look smart and buy something you like
Look at what Dani Goldstein wears to compete SJ at elite level. Certainly not “run of the mill!”
