Would you go to a combined dressage and show jumping competition on grass tommorow given the rain we've had? My instinct says it will be too slippy but not sure if I'm just being soft?
Depends! It's rained a bit down here but then as soon as the sun comes out the ground dries quite quickly again. So if it's a nice day tomorrow the conditions should be ideal, ground will still have some give in it from the rain but grass on top will have dried so not slippery. Saying that I haven't checked the weather forecast, if it keeps raining heavily then I'd probably give it a miss.
Depends so much on what's under the grass and how well it's kept and whether it'll dry out and what the weather will be like between now and then! Too many variables!
Our field is quick draining gravel at the top and the rabbits mow it short, and loamy boggy flood plain from a stream at the bottom where the grass is always long and lush, hence schooling is done on the flat bit at the top rather than the flat bit at the bottom.
We had 2 horses go xc schooling yesterday and they were sliding about all over the place as the ground was hard but the grass very wet.
Up to you really, if you think you can trot round quietly then go for it.
