Alister MacVicar is a bloody good vet - bit pricey when I last used him but that was a couple of years ago. Where abouts are you? There are quite a few specialist vets around that area!

Yes, used Alistair McVicar for years. Very knowledgeable Vet, takes his time explaining everything to you.

Recommend!

I vote for Mayes and Scrine ... Both Judy Scrine and Ben Mayes, helped to save Motor's life, so I am forever grateful to them ........ they are at Warnham in Surrey .... and come to me at Southwater area, which is South of Horsham ...

i use anvil and recommend alistair. he was very calm and patient with my naughty rearing mare. and when he found my gelding is half blind in his eye, he explained it all to me very well, stopping my panic setting in!! price-wise, they are cheaper than my other local vet for callouts, jabs etc. that was the main reason i went with them, plus my friend's tb had been in their hospital and was very well looked after, right thru to the end.

I too recomend Mayes & Scrine. Had lots of dealings with them sadly & they have always been fantastic.

They also have a vet called Anna Hammond who recognised that my lad was seriously ill on New years Day with perotinitis. She sent him straight to Liphook & after 10 days in intensive care he came home.

The vets at Liphook said that if Anna hadn't acted as fast as she did, I would have found him dead within hours.

Anvil is good, but Alistair is always very busy! For routine work it works out much cheaper to take your horse to him if your local and he encourages this. Mayes and Scrine are OK, Ben Mayes is great but I won't have Judy on our yard ever again. You could also try cinder hill, Mike Barrat is a very good vet and used to be based at Anvil also.

Haven't heard anything bad about Anvil, my own vet's are Mayes and Scrine, always been very good either with routine stuff or with emergencies. Highly recommend them.

I did my equine Work Ex with Alastair and hope to go back their on my clinical placements. He is a bloody good vet and a nice bloke. I don't think you can go far wrong with him. He comes all the way to West London to treat my friend's horses since she has used him for 16 years and won't use anyone else!!!

Price-wise, he isn't more expensive than my vets but then again we always have to pay humoungous call-out in London. As others have said, he encourages you to come to him for routine things.
