Just discussing this with a friend - She would NEVER buy anything second hand for her or her horse... I personally, very rarely buy things new.

Do you?
Would you?

If not - why not?

As long as it was good nick, no problem at all. Had some 'second hand' rugs for H - looked to me as if they had never been used! :D

Do you have limits on what you would buy second hand? Like Breeches? (friend wont buy them because someone elses minky has been rubbing on them :D ) Bits etc.?

I've got a second hand bridle, saddle, numnahs, headcollars, leather riding boots, show jacket, rugs and jodhpurs. Most of them looked practically unused when I got them :D.

I wouldn't buy a second hand riding hat or back protector (would never know if they had been in an accident) or underwear (although I do have 2nd hand jodhs so I'm not very consistent there :) ).

I get most of my stuff second hand. I always buy hats and body protectors new. I have jodhpurs and riding boots from charity shops, got some lovely Cavallo breeches for £20 on ebay. My Kent and Masters saddle was £350 and looked like new. Love a bargain!

Your friend is a leetle OCD! I've bought jodhs and bits secondhand. I wouldn't pay the full price for a Myler for instance, nor Pikeurs!

I doubt I'd buy a secondhand hat, unless is was a very bargainous GPA.

Most of my horse stuff is second hand - many of us can't afford a couple of £200 rugs so don't have the choice. Anyway, I grew up in handmedowns and thanks to the horse do 99% of my shopping in charity shops so I have no qualms whatsoever. I wouldn't buy a second hat hard hat though unless it still had the tags on, simply because you don't know if it has hit the floor previously.

Hat and body protector a definate no stirrup leathers and reins would normally be new unless I could check the leather first anything else secondhand is fine especially if I can find a horsey car boot type sale :)

I would now never buy another second hand rug, ever since we got lice off some second hand rugs, even though they'd been to the cleaners!!!!!

I think most other things second hand would be OK. Not sure how I'd feel about a numnah though?

Most of my horse stuff is second hand. Why buy new when you can buy what someone else doesnt want for a fraction of the price?

Ive bought stacks of stuff second hand. Id rather a really good quality used rug than a brand new one thats cheap and rubs or rips. Epecially out door rugs as they are muddy within 5 minutes.
Always new for hats though. Ive never bought a second hand bridle either

Yep- most of my horse's stuff is bought from ebay!

I wouldn't buy a hat or body protector second hand though, most of my other kit are hand me downs though.
