I am going hunting on sat, will be my first this season. it is a drag hunt over a xc course (i think)... however, i know its not the real thing.

but here we jump a lot of wire when actually hunting, and i dont want my horse to hit it as he will be used for working hunter/showing as well as eventing. the last time i went hunting with my pony we jumped a lot of wire, but he was a lot more careful in front over wire compared to my horse!

Drag hunting is ususally safer but i am going so i can make my horse better - would i be better trying a real hunt that dosent jump wire BUT they do jump a lot of stone walls...

depends on what you are going for.
if it is to get your horse fit and jumping, then drag hunting will be safer in the fact that it will be over a planned route of maintained jumps.

I enjoy both, but drag hunting over an XC course sounds a bit pants... IMO anyway..

I'd have a go with both and see which you prefer - everyone has a different opinion and it's not like one is better.

My hunt jump a lot of stone walls. If your horse is a clean jumper you shouldn't have a problem, if you're worried then put a pair of knee boots on and you'll be fine! :)

Happy hunting!
