Looking for some guidance/experience please

I have a 16.2 ex racehorse who is now progressing very nicely in his new career. I school him on the flat in a hanging cheek centre revolver snaffle which he goes in a nice outline in quite calmly, however, its not enough for jumping (which he loves

I have been riding him in a happy mouth dutch gag but think as his schooling has progressed he's finding it a bit much and has taken to trying to evade and manages to get his tongue over it even with a grackle noseband. I've been debating trying something with a ported mouthpiece and was looking at the ported Myler eggbut with hooks. I've also considered a pelham but think this may send him backwards. I really need something that I can use gently most of the time but has some braking abilties for cross country.

So peeps....ideas and thoughts pretty please?

The mylar comfort snaffle (which I think your refering to, its ported and an eggbutish) is good for horses that get the tounge over as it has loads of tounge relief. Great thing is you can generally hire mylers so its worth a go

Mylers are great on some Horses but not all. Mine wasn't keen on all the movement that they have. They are shaped really nicely for tongue room and the mouthpiece is narrow. One Horse I owned hated anything but a Myler.....and another went fine in anything but a Myler!! Horses huh!
Now, I discovered this bit (mine has shorter cheeks on it...this is an option) and my Horse loves it. Yours sounds similar to mine as he's fine with a french link snaffle most of the time but gets too strong XC and sometimes SJ. He also was forever putting his tongue over the bit and opening his mouth. A dutch gag was too strong for him and he fought it. This bit works well...have not yet needed the loops further down, and the bit of give in the C sleeve allows him to lift the pressure off his tongue if he wants.

My horse loves his myler low port comfort snaffle had tried alsorts x-country but never had brakes every snaffle 3 ring gag chelthnam gag pelham he hated them all with the myler had brakes and steering I also school him in it then use a ported sprenger for dressage woud not change it for the world

My horse used to go well in a happy mouth dutch gag, but then started resisting it, throwing his head around and like you I came to the conclusion that it was too strong. I have been riding him in a myler mullen mouth hanging cheek on the flat and it is fab, but not enough brakes for xc or jumping! So I hired a triple barrel myler eggbut with hooks, but this was too much and George was backing off, so about to try the low port comfort eggbutt with hooks. Have hired mine from 'A bit different' and the lady there has been really helpful.
