I am starting to look at what's around in the market ...

What do people think to these options ..

1. http://www.horsemart.co.uk/all_rounder_horse_9_yrs_10_mths_16_0_hh_bay_gloucestershire/advert/203931

2. http://www.horsemart.co.uk/other_horse_5_yrs_15_0_hh_skewbald_kent/advert/202714

I like the idea of a project - but don't know much about trotters and how this would affect future training etc (I want to do local dressage)

3. http://www.horsemart.co.uk/riding_c...1_mth_16_0_hh_bay_staffordshire/advert/203802

I really like this one - but he's quite a way from me

It's hard to tell from the photos but if you want to do local dressage etc then I would go for 1 or 3. If 1 is near to you then well worth a phone call. All are very reasonably priced.

I and 3 look nice.

Leave 2 well alone. Its not a standardbred so by trotter they probably mean some sort of road racing. It could have been started very young and pounded on the roads. Bit of a risk IMO.

1 is younger but more evidence of 3 being "out there doing" from the pics.

1 looks like a nice sort. IMO i would avoid number 2, much for the same reasons as rockysmum. i've only really come across one ex trotter before and it had a very strange way of going, not a massively sound type. 3 looks quite nice too but have to say i do prefer the look of number one!

Loving No 1. He reminds me a lot of daughter's old pony. No 3 also very nice. I think with of these you could just get on them and get going. No2, well as others have said if y ou want to do dressage then his acts may not be right. used to see a BS pony out jumping that had a trotting action, it ever cantered, it was weird to watch it go round the 1m + BS courses in a very fast pacing kind of gait!

To be honest I think the first one is overpriced.

It depends partly why you want a project - as a seller on, or just because you like something to work on?

He looks nice enough, but £1500 for a 10yr old TB that windsucks and hasn't really done anything is quite steep. You could get one half the age for a third of the price from Ascot sales without any vices, and bring it on nicely to do dressage.

But if you want a horse for life, and you just want a nice allround chap, then he'd probably do the job for you.

Worth asking if No1 raced
Think the seller rides out/involved in racing

If you want a TB worth asking any local trainers first
They will know which ones are suitable for a second career.

No 3 for me. The fact that No. 3 has been in the same home for 6 years says a lot as is the fact that the new home will be vetted, he's obviously a much loved horse.

No 1 is very nice but windsucking could be a sign of ulcers which would put me off.

^^^^ this.

I too quite like the look of no 3 he has also been out and about done a bit more, seems like a genuine reason.

No 1 is also nice looking, however the windsucking puts me off straight away, this is just my opinion though.

No.3 is also fairly priced too

Much prefer 3 and I don't think that is old! We have a 25 year old still doing rc activities and a retired 40 year old on yard. Same home for 6 years would mean a lot to me. Well priced too!

For me it's no3, looks nice and if you ever fancied doing some combined training or just jumping at home for fun you know he can do it :) he's been out and about more too. :)

No.3

As for the later link -
"For sale as we need more space for own horses." when he is listed by a "private seller" rings alarm bells.

No. 1 looks lovely, personally I would be a bit cynical as to why she is actually selling him but that could just be me as I am very cynical when it comes to buying horses and like the others say about the wind sucking but if that's something that doesn't bother you.

No. 3 looks nice and def worth a look and your last posted I agree with S4sugar!!
