In writing he's just the sort of thing I'm after. I don't think he'd catch your eye in a crowd, but sounds honest and comes with a warranty - seems a competitive price too. Any thoughts?

Horsemart

Caz I know what you mean - he does seem quite cheap. So apart from any hidden unsoundness (I'd be getting a 5* vetting anyway) I wondered if you guys can spot something I'm missing! Though it does seem to be a buyers market atm.

its a trade advertiser but the way they've done the advert it sounds like they're private sellers and that Bud is their family horse. I think for the price there's a problem with him as it all seems a bit to good to be true!

I'm sorry, but the cynic in me says there's something up for that price - why so cheap? They also say he comes with a warranty - why and what does this cover?

I would very much go into this one with eyes WIDE open and buyer beware heavily on the tip of my tongue!

I'm sorry, I'm just very skeptical!

Nice horse, but as others have said why so cheap?? Or is it that we are just so used to seeing over priced horses these days? As you say it is becoming much more of a buyers market - i am thinking about upgrading my lorry which is great to upgrade but not so good when you have an older lorry for sale first!!!!

Not having bought a horse before I personally would be very cynical as to whats wrong with it. On paper it seems perfect but as Rocky_Merlot says maybe we've just got used to seeing overpriced horses for sale.

A vetting would/should reveal any problems

The dealer I have been warned off several times and apparently when I was selling my horse very recently a lady rang me who whilst trying a horse from a dealer from the same area that was supposed to be a novice ride was bolted with and she ended up with a fractured pelvis.

Go and see this horse but be very careful, they are cheap for a reason.

I would probs go and see it if it was near to me.... but give them a ring and have a spanish inquisition on the phone. If you still want to go, take somebody very experienced (excuse me if you are!) to spot anything you don't and watch him ridden very carefully before you decide whether or not you want to ride him. Because you could be missing a bargain if you don't!!!

It's tempting to go but it is a very long way. He does look like an ex-racer; I'm still wary though as my last horse was an ex-racer and she cost more than him, even though she had a few issues!
Bah, this whole thing is a minefield. Too expensive and it puts you off, too cheap and you smell a rat. If only buying horses was easier!

He does appear cheap, i paid around that for my t/b who was as described and more - so I guess he was cheap too!! Who cares if he was an ex racer - if he has been schooled on since then it just proves he is willing and honest and not bolshy and arrogant! Don't get me wrong I would have a vetting and get him insured as soon as purchased but it wouldnt put me off taking a look!!

To be honest, for a TB type I don't think it's that suspiciously cheap. About what TB's go for isn't it? He's a gelding, 9 going on 10, doesn't sound like he's got detailed papers and maybe hasn't done an awful lot. Know I can't get much more for my TB's of the same spec, with super breeding.

Stoke is only 20 mins away from me.

I'm 6 months up the duff otherwise I'd go and have a look for you.

I'll have a word with my SiL who is also a trader to see if she knows of her. I'll also ask a couple of other contacts.

I think it's reasonably priced too. I do think people have tendency to think horses should cost soo much more when often it's the seller who believes their horse is worth more than it actually is (hence often why they take ages to sell!). Looks like a perfectly nice animal to me, it's 9 it's not done an awful lot when you think about other horses of a similar age/type. No reason why there should be a thing wrong with it so I'd go see it. If you don't know a lot yourself take someone knowledgeable with you who can give an unbiased opinion and if still ok then get it vetted.

Have just been having a look on Horsemart (much to my hubbies horror) - there are some blummin cheap horses around.

Just my luck, I'm not in a position to buy - boooohoooooo!
