Not to keen on the back end. As you mentioned with the withers his neck is set high, quite a dip in the back and then mount everest at the backend.

Personally I wouldn't go for him but I am just really piccy, look sweet though everywhere else, nice intelligent look.
 
Yep - can see that. I'm not amazing with conformation - what would be the implications of this?

When I finally do come to buy I will probably have lists of horses on here seeking your help

As his back is formed like an up turned banana ....... ) ...... he could struggle with working in an outline and forming a good shape over a fence like this ....... ( ....... if you get what I mean.

It could be the photos that dont do him justice but... I dont like his neck, it doesnt seem to belong to his body and his head is a bit big and stuck on top. he gives me the impression that he would either go around with his head stuck in the air or would over bend giving you nothing in the hand. It would depend what you wanted to do, as a happy ' do a bit of everything' he might be fine. The price is great if hes sound

Maybe he behaves really badly at competitions.

I have been told I'm far too cynical about horse adverts - but we did see a lot of nutters when we were looking for OH's horse - by the end we always translated "not a novice ride"/"lots of character" as "loon"!

Yes that's probably the right interpretation!!

I will be looking for a safe horse that I trust but not a slow horse. I want something with a brain and some spark but that listens when I tell it to stop.

It will just be for hacking, simple schooling and easy jumping - a pleasure horse for me.

I will want something that gives me time to relax and enjoy myself and doesn't cause me tons of stress!!
 
You'll be wanting a nice welsh cob then!

Argh! Never got on with welshies I'm afraid. I know everyone else seems to love them but all the ones I've ridden have been nutjobs!! Although I would like a nice Sec A as a companion.

What I really want is a Dales pony but I have to accept that I may not get one so I am looking at cross breeds, etc.
 
I dont think the odd confirmation problem should be an issue. No horse is perfect. It depends what you want to do! I mean you might be more worried about it if you want to do Grand Prix or whatever but I assume your not.

I think too many people go on and on about confirmation. Loads of top show jumpers didnt have good confirmation!!

Temperament / attitude is way more important IMO. Its hard to judge anything from a photo. Go and see the horse or request video footage if they have any. I would want to know why its not a novice ride though.
 
Yes that is all very true! I really agree with you. My only concern would be that the horse is capable of doing long (3-5 hour) hacks without too much trouble and that it is going to get anything like arthritis in later life
 
I would want to know why they say it isn't a competition horse.

We only compete at RC level but I wouldn't like to have a horse that wasn't ever going to be suitable for taking to a local show if you fancied it.

I would worry that it was either loopy at shows or had an old injury, neither of which I would want
