Looking for a 2nd horse to be friend to my 'high maintenance dwb'. It has to be not too complicated and my husband wants to learn to ride properly, he used to ride when he was younger.....

What do you think?? I'll also be riding this one quite alot as my wb now recovering from joint concussion in front fores!

If you are just after something low maintence to have a bit of fun with that your husband can ride I think she sounds perfect! Assuming she is all the add says she is...

I couldn't see any glaringly obvious confirmation faults (ie missing leg) I'd definetly go and have a look! =)

hmmm well I do love cobs don't get me wrong but this one for me, my first impression is that the mare is too short in the back for my liking, so I wouldn't consider it further, but that's just me, I'm just be honest as you did ask for opinions, not meaning to sound negative by the way or put you off.

But she looks a nice type though.

I am not a coloured fan or a cob fan for that matter but there is something about her I think she looks lovely the "does as it says on the tin" type.

looks ok but think you could probably get more for your money as such - this one looks like it would need a bit of schooling for it to go nicely.

If the advert is correct, then she sounds perfect if she is big enough for your husband. She looks like a good weight carrier for her height, (I would say that a short back in a horse of this type is usually a bonus). If you are also going to be riding her, you will be able to keep up to her schooling and stop her taking advantage of a novice rider, which I have found that this type can do, although only usually by going slow, rather than by anything dramatic.
In fact if she was nearer I might be interested in her myself!

She looks a nice low maintenence one. Definatley a different kettle of fish to your wb! But that might be refreshing to have one as just a 'fun' horse. I agree a little short backed, also a short neck but a she is only 15.1hh so is a compact little creature anyway. Worth a look!

Cute! Nothing at all wrong with short backs! Makes them easier if anything to keep together

Cobs aren't the "easy option" people think they are though a lot of the time...

she looks nice but i think the 16.1hh mare looks smarter (in terms of appearance) but i just prefer coloured horses with more colour than white...........

However, she does look like a nice safe do it all little cob, HOwever if your OH is around 6ft ish, he may look a little big on her.,....... maybe.........

Thanks for all your opinions! Hubby is only about 5'7 so no probs there, my wb is 16.2 and a handful, she's only 6 and scared of nature!
I agree I like more colour on them too, and schooling won't be a problem it will give me a chance to get a bit of confidence back after breaking my arm this summer......

She looks perfectly nice but I'd say if its something for you to ride as well as your husband, and if you prefer something a little finer, then I personally wouldn't go for her.

If it was me I would probably go for something a bit more like this chap:
http://www.horsemart.co.uk/advert/6_yrs_8_mths_16_1_hh_blue_roan_irish_draught_x_west_midlands/81501

Irish Draughts are hardy and usually quite sensible, and this horse or something similar would be suitable for your husband to learn on and for you to have some fun with -and your OH too if he progresses quickly and wants to go out and about and do some competing.

I'd have to agree, 6ft and depending on your partners weight, I know I know before anyone laughs at this comment that there wouldn't be a problem weight wise as such...its a cob after all, but the reason I commented on shorted backed horses is the problems that you can have, a rider can easily be too big for a horse with a short back, specially a large gentleman, people seem to think that a short backed horses are better and more compact looking, but how? all the weight is carried in a smaller area, therefore more likely to have saddle fitting issues and more likely to suffer with back problems, not only that but a mare should naturally have a longer than a gelding anyway, its all down to confirmation at the end of the day which provides a good sound riding horse.

i love the blue roan chap! he looks like he has seen a bit more of life and can obviously turn his hoof to anything. The mare looks on the small side imo and green. good luck with your search

Hubby tells me he's 5'7 but I think he's shorter
wink.gif
and he's about 13.5 stone......

I do prefer something a little finer, and the blue roan chap looks nice, however price bracket has gone a little high!! I don't want to get something and then its not used as much as it should be if that makes sense....
