I don't know if i'm allowed to do this, but here goes....
I'm looking for a 14.2hh ish pony to have some fun with whilst my horse is off lame. I don't want to spend a huge amount and i am happy bringing something on.
I like the look of this chap. What do you think? I have been out of the buying market for many, many years and it seems like a mine-field. My main concern is buying something with lameness problems as that is all i have had to deal with for the last 6 years :(

I would ask how much work he has done as he seems to be light on rump muscle, which may be important if you're planning to jump.
 
Alarms bells for me im afraid, when I read 'sold from the field'

That basically means that this dealer (assumed as has other adds) would rather not have someone ride it for a few weeks and earn twice the price, but would rather sell without someone riding to try out.
 
Sweet little pony, agree he's a bit weak behind but that can be worked on if no under lying problem. My only 'negative' comments are that the pictures were obviously taken in the summer so I would like to see more up to date pics and my other comment is that in every pic he's not looking very happy i.e ears back but then again that could be bad timing on the photographers part or bad riding or ill fitting tack. It's always worth a phone call.
 
God awful jumping pic - why put that on?! Why is its head prcatically between it's front feet? Looks nice enough but I would want to know why a dealer is selling it at all if such a fab pony. If as good as it says and it certainly looks nice then i can't see wy it wouldn't be being ridden and why the owner couldn't have sold it?
 
Ditto alarm bells.

Sold from the field usually means no rider or a B****** to ride.
If this pony is genuine a few weeks riding would double his price so why hasn't this dealer done this?
 
I would be alarmed too, looks a nice pony and is very cheap for a coloured.

The jumping pic indicates thast it is very green at jumping, and to be honest I would expect a 'normal' 10 yr old horse to be able to have a month off work with no ill effects! Surely they can get it in and lunge then ride for a day or to before someone tries it?

Would wonder why a)sold from field - but could be explained due to bad weather and B)why so little wanted for it - quite a flashy pony with a decent jump, and could be worth a lot more!

Just looked again at the jumping - pony is being very tightly held and it got very close to the fence - would think that the pony either rushes its fences or is a stopper and has been *made* to jump ;)
 
nice pony, nice price, but always insist on seeing strange horses ridden, it their job to show you the horse, ring well in advance of visiting to arrange demo, never get on a horse you are not sure of.
 
I too would be very suspicous of 'sold from field', especially as it is a trade advertiser. Someone once told me that you have no come back if it is sold in that way - not sure whether this is true or false.

I have also just noticed that the seller is selling my old pony - the black dressage horse - so in fact, I know who they are.......

I did think the same thing; if someone hopped on him for 2 weeks they could double the price..... :rolleyes:

Thanks for the links Only_Me. I like the grey (and all the others!) from Elite Irish, but i think they will be out of my price range!! :o

I'm afraid i may have to bore you all rigid with more links of ponies in the future during my quest to find a new one! :D
